Hi, I got a white fantasio appearing cane, and I took it out of the box and opened the cane, I let is sit open for a day, and when I closed it had a very weak spring to it, it will only open about 1.5 feet with a dimond cut silk in it.
What should I do? Thanks |

Next time buy a metal one. The plastic vanishing canes are OK, but the plastic appearing ones are not worth having.
Just my 2 cents. Jim |

If you have the real item, a Fantasio product. Fantasio recommends extending the cane to the length you desire and tighten.
Put a rubber-band around the cap. Find a tray the same length as your cane. Boil a pot of water until it is rapidly boiling. Place the boiling water into the tray. Place the Fantasio cane into the tray. Keep the cane in the tray until the water is cold. Remove the cane and dry off. Remove the rubber-band. Now try the cane, it should be back to new. If not repeat the process. |

William, thanks for posting that! I have an old Fantasio Cane that might benefit from that process. I may give it a try if I can find a long tray that can withstand boiling water!

Think outside the box, any metal tube can be made into a tray by simply turning up the ends. Tin snips and bend. Gutter drain pipe come to mind, off the top of my head. I am sure a trip to Lowe's Home improvement will turn up something cheap.
If not just make one out of Aluminum foil, pull out the length you need and double or triple it, then fold over and then form the sides and ends. If using this, I suggest you put it in the bath tube, before pouring boiling water into it, just to be on the safe side. Just don't tell your wife you used all that aluminum foil to fix a magic trick. |

If you can"t find a tray, use a bath tub!

William is on the right track, but just take a piece of pvc or copper tubing and cap it. Put the cane in and pour the water in.
After the heat process, dry it off and then use silicon spray on it.

Great ideas, guys! I have some PVC pipe, and some fittings. I think I might have a bathtub too!
Thanks! Regan

Not just hot or kind of boiling, but the kind of boil where it has large bubbles and starts popping out of the pot on the stove. Please be very careful handling boiling water. I would hate to hear of an accident. Again the cane has to be left in the container until it is cold, that may take several hours. This is not an instant process. So take your time. |
