Just a heads-up for those in the UK, BBC2 at 9pm tonight has this:

It was VERY lightweight and contained a few misconceptions in the dialogue, which was a shame because it promised so much.

I thought the part about "blindsight" was interesting....

Watched this last night - very disappointing. It merely reinforced my negative opinion of experimental psychology - if you can't measure it, it's not scientific so we'll ignore it. They may have some idea of how the brain works but this tells you nothing about "the mind" in general or the unconscious mind in particular. To do that you need to use introspection, excluded from academic psychology for over a hundred years. I learnt more about the workings of the human mind in a one-week NLP course than I did in a three-year psychology degree.
And how can you produce a documentary on "the unconscious" without even mentioning Freud or Jung? Barry |

Still got this on Iplayer, yet to watch. Don't think I'll waste my time then. Horizon can be really good, but there's so much cr@p as well that, as Jon says, promises in the blurb to be something it just isn't. Quite a few effects around like this

I watched this again in case I was unfairly misjudging it, but I wasn't. For example, the section on blindsight never seemed to go into and depth on how the visual cortex is at the back of the brain and that signals passing along the optic pathways interact with other parts along the way to have more meaning added and used before they ever hit the ocular cortex. In that way it's possible for people with certain forms of blindsight to even dodge out of the way of oncoming objects without ever "seeing" them.
