I was just saying.....it's one thing to watch the news and another to live in the midst of it.

Hunting has become a necessity, because of how mankind has thrown the environment out of balance. I remember some cases of over-restricted hunting causing problems. For instance, pheasant hunting was restricted in a year when there were plenty of pheasants. What happened the following year? No pheasants! They were so over populated that disease killed them off. I didn't see the numbers start to rebound for a decade. Nature corrects things the best it can. I've seen the same thing with locust populations.
Often times, here in Michigan, hunters will protest the Department of Natural Resources allowing a hunting season. Hunters want nature to have a chance rebound. Other times, hunters have spoken out about over population and the necessity of a season. |

You take that as a compliment? Hmmm, now what does that say about you???
Not that there's anything wrong with it! |

Out at the land we had a raccoon that kept killing chickens. Over a dozen chickens in a few short weeks. So we tracked the raccoon and the owner's wife shot it in the head 5 times with a .22, I guess because she wasn't sure it was dead the first four times.
One raccoon, or a dozen more chickens. We chose the lesser evil.

We also know that nature doesn't "require" it. And we know that some Homo Sapiens enjoy killing things that they have no intention of eating. And, finally, we know that Homo Sapiens greatly enjoy things that nobody could argue are required by nature. So I'm afraid that writing the whole phenomenon off to some biological imperative doesn't tell the whole story.

CPerhaps not the whole story, but true nonetheless. Just because some individuals have chosen to not eat meat, it doesn't change things. As far as killing without the eating, many many other species do this.

And if the average hunter killing one animal a year shows that they love killing sentient beings, what does that say about PETA and the killing of nearly every animal they can get their hands on? As you said, you are what you do. |
