Hey all,

This time of year I still run into the dud weekend. This one coming up is a good example. I know some of you may not struggle with this anymore, but maybe you have in the past and can give your two cents. For the rest of us mere mortals, do you have any last ditch efforts to pick up a few gigs for an upcoming weekend? Any cold calls I should make or any place I should post? I just put out a message to my friends on facebook saying that I would discount my services for this Saturday only. Any other thoughts?

Thanks.

What I tend to do is contact all the other magicians in the area and tell them I unexpectedly have a slot free. If they are asked to do a gig and can 't they will then pass it on to me. It works, because they all know I pass gigs on to them. If I can't help someone I make sure they get a number to ring.

Aside from that, check if there are any festivals or big public events going on, and contact them. Alternatively, offer a discount and promote the hell out of it over the internet.

I have an open Saturday for the first time since January. The weather is nice and I'm going to enjoy it!

Is there a busking opportunity in your city? That is how I fill my open weekend dates.

I second Frank's comment! Take a weekend off and spend it with your family.

I look at the weekends as my busiest part of the week. I always want to use my weekends as business. If I have no paid shows to do, I would either do street busking or work on something new for my act.

I'm with Frank - when I get a free weekend I forget work, have fun and see it as a gift!

I don't go mountain biking though - the shape I'm in, that would be more like torture!

Thanks for the input guys, but I'm not interested in keeping it empty, hence the thread.
