I'm new to this ballooning and was wondering what is a good book to get me started?? Plus, how long should it take to build a standard poodle?

Under thirty seconds for a poodle.
Get a simple one-balloon model book from your balloon supplier, and stick to the basic one balloon shapes until you have them nailed, then move on to the more complex shapes.

While quite honestly it should take under 30 seconds to make a standard poodle, the interaction between you and the customer/client/person is actually MUCH more important than the actual creation of the poodle. I've seen people at festivals in my area who are more like balloon making machines than entertainers. Be a people person first and a balloon artist second. There are tips you won't learn from a book, and they may take you a long time to learn if you weren't born with the people skills. Similar to those (and we've all experienced this...) restaurant servers/waitstaff with zero personality, but can get the order right. I'd rather be remembered for my personality AND balloons than just a guy who whipped out a dog in 10 seconds. JoeyHart, you can learn a lot from people here on the Café.

Why limit yourself to one balloon creations?
There are lots of free tutorials on Youtube on easy 2-3 balloon models. Far more impressive than one balloon ones. Danny |

However, there is no way I could have came straight to 2-3 balloon models without first learning the basics of a 1 ballooner I found the website http://www.balloon-animals.com quite good aswell, he's presentation is "interesting" but overall his balloons are quite good |

YouTube has great resources for beginners. That and a few bags of 260's will give you hours of fun. Just don't make the same mistake that I did, I thought a bag of 100 ct 260's would last me a long time. You will go through them in no time. Buy a few bags of 100 ct 260's!
