This is a version of the coins across plot I have been working on for some times, I was challenging myself to do it open handed, and was wondering if any of you had seen something similar... What do you think?

I like the 1st 3 Coins traveling. Personally for me, the last coin didn't do it for me. it becomes to much handling and goes against the title of open hand coins across

Thank you for your feedback Rizzo!
That 4th coin is the difficult one I've been struggling with from the beginning! I guess I'll have to work a lot to think of something clever for that one coin... |

I didn't like the last coin at all. Very contrived and completely unnatural. However, I'm not much of a coin guy so I don't really have a good fix for it. Contact Eric Jones (a member on here) for some advice...he'll have a good fix for ya...

I've got an idea:
do the ROV, but keep your right hand closed. Pick up the other three coins and add the fourth. Place all of them on the back of you closed right fist. Snap your fingers and spread the fingers of your right hand while spreading the coins backward with your left hand. Sort of a penetration finale. |

Others including Geoff Latta have opted for an open transfer to set up a magical transfer. I believe there are some handlings using that approach on the coins across volume of the New York Coin Symposium DVDs.
Ideally the way you handle the coins should appear consistent throughout the routine.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

Thank you for your answers! I'm slowly working on this ending, I first just removed the three coins transfer at the end that looks terrible and creates unnecessary moves. I do the ROV, show the coin vanished, then pick the three other coins in the other hand, give them a shake to cause the fourth coin to join them. That change is minimal but the result is I think less disturbing. I know that the ideal way would be the last coin to act exactly like the others, I'm still thinking on it. At first the routine was kind of designed like Homer Liwag's "coin one", where the last coin (wich is the difficult one) travels in a different way...

First of all lets remove one coin and use only 3. "The Power of 3" or "The Rule of 3" Learn it. Live it. Love it.
Its an old showbiz rule that I think more magicians should learn. Never do anything more than 3 times. After that it becomes less relevent/boring to an audience. Once is magical. 2nd time I'm trying to catch you. nope. couldn't catch you, do it again. 3rd time I am clueless and fried. You are a great magician. oh wait, their is a 4th time? ok but now you are just showing off. Get it? anywho. the last coin has to travel like the first 2 if the first 2 traveled the same way. My suggestion is, instead of varying only the last one, change all '3' (not4) phases up. Chad |

Completely agree with Chad here (And what I think my friend Riz is feeling here as well)...just use 3 coins. I have always found 4 crossings to be 1 crossing too much.
I think the ideas you have here work well enough with how you're doing it but just don't over-do it or use only one method. I have seen handlings like this and in my own KrazyKoinZ Across where I use several methods with just 3 coins, the final coin is a sorta open-handed type crossing but these crossings are always nice to see from the specs viewpoint but maybe not every time, so maybe vary it a little. Good job with this and keep working with it, sometimes better solutions come in time..They did for me. Oh, and welcome to the Café taklyt.

I liked the routine but have to agree with the rest on the finale.. I don't have a solution but that's just my opinion as a magician. Now for the Lay it will look good but I think they will feel like the "TRICKY" stuff was done at the end.. I believe Dan Watkins has a similar effect in his Coins man walking dvd...

I like the routine as well, but have to agree with the pack. And, I DO like the one less coin solution!

Hello everyone!
Thank you for our opinions and kind advices, I've been quite busy these couple of weeks at work, and haven't been able to work on my magic, but I certainly keep my mind focused on improving this routine! I'm currently working with 3 coins and still struggling with the finale, but I'll eventually will stumble on a solution someday! Fingers crossed! |
