I am working on a new piece, and I need a different type of jumbo coin from the standard U.S. Kennedy Half Dollar. I saw a Chinese coin being sold on the net but it was thirty dollars, which to me seemed like a bit much. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I got a really nice jumbo Chinese coin from
The “Magic Warehouse - Discount Magic Tricks.” They have two types. The one I have is brass and black, 3 inches, and $22.50 The other is $12.00, and is a 3 inch pewter finish Chinese coin. Best to you Joe

What can you do about the price? Nothing. 30 dollars for a Chinese coin is pretty good.
If you want some sites to get some jumbos from, I can give you a few. Best Brad

The three and five inch Chinese coins were 15 and 25 dollars when I got them LONG ago.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

I paid $75.00 for a 3 inch Chinese coin. It is a real Chinese coin, from the eighteenth century, and collectable, so the price was reasonable. It all depends on what you want. I wanted the coins I was using to be real, and have a history that I could use in my storyline if I chose to. If you just want a big coin for impact, and don't care about the verisimilitude, then you can get a facsimile for much less, as noted in other posts. There are all kinds of odd-sized coins available at coin dealers, but you have to ask most of the time, they tend to keep them in the back, since they are oddities, not the coins collectors are usually looking for. You'd be surprised what kind of deals you can get if you ask.
Best, PSC

Chosse will like this... Matt Corin and I were in San Francisco's Chinatown looking for authentic Chinese coins. We looked in window after window, store after store...
And suddenly we spotted a KILLER about six inches in diameter. Matt went ballistic, shouting, LOOK THERE IS THE PERFECT COIN and RAN into the store (he didn't want me to beat him to it.) He was so EXCITED the merchant saw this and when asked the price ... well it wasn't cheap and Matt had no leg to stand on to try to negotiate it down. So... I, being employed at the time, bought it out from under the "Frisco Kid."
