Usual batch of mixed reviews here. I want to like this but am hesitant to push the order button!

I think the product overall is an ok purchase, IF you do not do Twilight Angels, or have it and don't use it. My reasons for this are that it will introduce you to TA! You get a deck of Mandolins and a handfull of TA cards to go with it, along with a very good handling for TA. Wings as an effect is, sadly, not for me. I use TA a great deal, and I let my imagination get the better of me when I was originally told about Wings, which unfortunately left me disappointed when I saw it and played with the gimmick :-(
If you already do Twilight Angels and are happy with your handling, I doubt you will get much from this, although... I guess there is no harm keeping the gimmick in the deck for other routines, then maybe use it if you have that 'moment'... |

I think this is actually very good.
There is a version where you remove the angel in their hands which gets a great reaction. If you don't like the mirror ending to Twilight Angels then this is a great alternative. You don't have to do signed cards either if you don't want to (making yor gaffs last longer), but it does make a very nice give away to that special person at a party if they sign it and can keep it. I find this works best on women as they like the angel plot. You also get a full deck of Mandolin cards with this so you are ready to go straight away. You can get this from http://www.paulharrispresents.co.uk in the UK and Europe.

You want to be a few feet away at least 3-4
I treat the flapping as a bit of business it's the angle disappearing in their hands and coming back next to the other which links this all up. You are taught the mirror Twilight Angles and no mirror in the hands vanish (my favourite the women love it) as well which is good as there is no DVD for this available. You also get 5 or 6 Twilight Angel gaffs to get you going, they will last a while if you don't do signed cards, if you do you can buy full deck refills. http://www.paulharrispresents.co.uk/card......llo.html http://www.paulharrispresents.co.uk/card......red.html This is easy to perform, can't say much more really!

Hi all!
I first got Cardian Angels and LOVED it! Penguin carries this as well: http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/527 But Twilight Angels really did it for me! Not being a very good-looking guy, this kinda has given me an edge with the ladies. There are not many like it. My Twilight Angel cards are Bicycle. So is Cardian Angel. I'm not a big fan of the new Mandolins. That's just me. Drat! I just found out Penguin is out of stock on the 10-pack of Bicycle Twilight Angels! I have 5 left! Gonna have to be a SPECIAL lady that gets to keep one of these! Not knocking the product, but really...I cannot top doing Cardian Angel and finishing with Twilight Angels! I have to admit it's obviously a trick deck! It's really amazing though how the angel finds the chosen card! That in itself makes it magic! Hey, this is something new and different though! Doug |

Remember to watch the dvd before trying to work the gimmick ( something I never do ). Matt Mellow shows how to 'activate' the card. One you do that, those wings will appear to flap. I find tt works in bright light and low light.
I'd only flap them 3 times ( the rule of three ). You'll get strong reactions from that because this is something they've never seen before ( I've nerve seen it before ). As much as I've always loved the original Twilight Angels ( with the mirror ) I prefer the handling they teach where the magic happens in their hands. It just seems stronger. You don't have to have them sign the card and give it away. But if you did a wedding or some other special occasion, having them sign the card and getting to keep it would be the way to go. |

Does the DVD show how to intertwined T A and Wings?

Yes the DVD shows the 2 linked together and you get few TA cards with it to get you going, plus a full normal deck of Mandolin cards.

I got this yesterday and all I can say is that it is a masterpiece, one of those effects that cann't see the light of the magic community very often.
Gimmick is incredibly well made and the whole package with the mandolin deck and the twilight angel cards make it for sure a great deal. This effect is supposed to offer a magic moment that lasts very short and stays in memory for a long time. Having said that, the most important part is not to overdo the animation. Just some seconds and it can spread an amazing magic feeling that not many card tricks can do. |

Matt's trick is a beautiful marriage to Twilight Angels. I used to carry a Zippo to do the mirror part, but with Wings, the angel taking flight takes care of the angel vanishing and joining the other angel.
Couples love this trick and like Anniversary Waltz, the girls get all gushy. The angel's wings flapping creates an incredible moment for them. |

David Regal reviewed WIngs on Reel Magic #30. He said "I really love, love, the flying effect". He didn't care for the gaff Twilight Angels card. The missing angel, joined with the other angel wasn't for him. Of course the main effect, the angel flapping it wings, is the incredible moment for an audience. I also happen to like doing Twilight Angels with the cards, which is another incredible trick.
David did have some great ideas about using the Wings card for a cards across or cards to pocket. I hadn't thought about and want to try it out. |

Hey Zombie,
Yeah we showed David Regal during the development of WINGS and he mentioned not being into the Twilight Angels card. I love ending with an impossibly altered object that you can give away as a souvenir. Spectators love it. However, I REALLY like using the card in other ways... such as what David recommends. Thanks for the heads up on the review! Josh |

I hope no one thought I was being snarky or critical of David. He's brilliant and I value his advice and LOVE his reviews ( because they are dead on accurate ). I didn't want to say David reviewed this and said he loved it and leave out the part he wasn't so hot on.
His thinking on using the animated Wings for a cards across or card to pocket pocket has me working on a routine right now ( also would save me from having to keep buying refill packs because I'm always giving away the cards ). |

No worries, Zombie. Many magicians prefer to scratch out the missing angel section of the card. Wayne Houchin has a wonderful performance on True Astonishments with the card in this state.
Regarding refills, Paul Harris has done everything he can to keep the prices low on Mandolin TA Cards. We also have a small supply of Ryder Backed TA cards left! Look forward to hearing about your card to pocket routine! Speaking of Card to pocket effects.. have you seen Chad Nelson's transposition routine that involves a spectator's back pocket? Super strong magic! Josh |

I like the gaff cards they made up with the angel missing and bought some of the full packs. It's perfect for Twilight Angels, which I've loved since it first came out. I think when people saw Wayne Houchin perform it on the TA set it sparked new interest in the trick for those that didn't know it.
Josh, I haven't Chad Nelson's trick. Thanks for the reference. |

I just picked this up. I have yet to perform it yet, but an idea going through my head is as follows.
In the middle of the deck, you have the King of hearts ( normal) face up. Below this is a short card followed by the gaffed KH. On top of him, you have the Queen of spades. On top of deck, you have QH, below his is QH gaffed. Talk about soul mates ect... Name a color, red or black... I Fan deck and like magic the King turns face up! Cut right there so you have two piles.... On top of him s/b the QH.....OOPS..... I meant like magic she jumps to the top of the deck You can do DL, insert face up into deck and sneak normal into that half using pointer. You place KH on top of other pile and have deck cut. You can know show all backs as normal by dribbling face down You patter about angels ect... Claim you'll make angel fly and switch places with angel on the king Tough part is getting them back..... Do wings to show..... Hand queen face up to your helper You reverse count claiming looking for an extra angel if the angel could fly remove the obvoius and keep on dealing and turn face up. At this point you can dribble showing NO KING You then have helper turn over the Queen. |

I just got Wings at a bargain price from a sale. Not bad. I'm working with the gimmick, breaking it in. I'm impressed with the accuracy with which it is cut. The gimmick appears to be of good quality.
The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.
