Thus the trick Newton's Nightmare.
Non-Ferris metal acts like a mirror to magnetism. It reflects the magnet's own magnetism back to itself. So it's "like" dropping a magnet into a magnetic tube with the same polarity, which causes it to repel. Which causes gravity to have a hard time pulling it down. Other than Newton's Nightmare, Mikames chop cup takes advantage of this. So does a non-commercial effect by Brian Nordstrom, which I can't say what but it's really really cool. Randi |

This is a great little effect. I work in science communication and use this it a lot. Its a greta example of a magic effect using science. I use it on sonmthing we do called magic of science-science of magic. If you want to know more about the science its called Lenz Law. Check it out.
