Hi,
Just curious... What sort of permission or copyright rigts must you get if you ever wanted to make a Tutorial DVD? IF your showing off bascis like card sleights, holding positions etc, DL's, and then some tricks that you learnt from either books or DVDS. What process must you take if you were to make a DVD and sell it without being in trouble or insulting other magicians you learnt from? |

I wouldn't do it unless the original sleight was either invented by you, or is out of copyright. For example, you're probably OK teaching techniques on the DL, because it's beyond copyright.

In my opinion you MUST be able to bring something new to the table when it comes to DVD releases. Almost any magician could put a simple teaching DVD together. If you want to teach, you must be better than anybody else you know. The kind of level where others are saying to you "wow, you should really be putting this on a DVD". Otherwise, don't do it and simply point towards resources already available.
So unless you are the BEST in your field at what you want to teach, don't do it. Its VERY rude and insulting to those protecting the secrets and making money by performing and not making money by selling effects and DVD's to 12 year olds.
