In one of the illusion books or videos (maybe Rand Woodbury, maybe someone else), I recall the performer using a falling, long & wide piece of cloth. I'm talking at least 30' long, perhaps longer. Gravity did the work as it cascaded down. Maybe sew chain or a wood dowel into the bottom edge. This was used from above, instead of a confetti cannon or flash pot from below, to cover the change in the open doorway of an illusion.

Take a look at Sam's excellent website - I did. Although I have never seen him perform, I do not believe that he would deliver a cheap performance under any circumstances. He realised the problems raised by this request and asked this forum for help. I admire him for that and am sure that he will think things through before deciding what course of action to take. The best that we can do is to offer constructive advice and let him reach his own decision. I have a feeling that we will be hearing a lot more of Sam in the future. We should not be suggesting anything that could damage a very promising career. |

Now is the time to contact Paul Osborne at bentli@aol.com
He's made numerous flash appearance in his books and in the Genii Magazine. If BA is possible, this is a quick way to do it. Paul is very approachable and could help you tremendously. -Dennis

Forget Flash Appearances, Mummy Wraps, Tip over boxes, etc.
The best is a protean or modern cabinet. Very Magical, easy to do, no lighting problems, no smoke problems or flash pots that don't go off and the Bride and groom will look good when they appears. |

What I mean is exactly what you wrote and I quote: "Cost constraints are completely different to 'cheap'. An illusion that looks cheap will certainly damage the reputation of the performer." Flip Switch - Creative magic, is great illusion and doesn’t look cheap, but for the sum of money he has, it can be used, but for example the Elevator illusion or something similar cost much more money he has, so with the word cheap I didn’t mean to diminish his reputation or wedding or magic but the use of illusion that cost more than his budget is. Thank you for correcting me. |

Hi Aftereight
How I wish that I could write a second language as well as you write your third! It was not my intention to correct you. What I was doing was commenting on what I thought you meant. As I now realise that we were both making a similar point, I would like to formally apologise for misunderstanding you. Thank you. |

Hi Selcouth, yes schools in my country are very hard, we had to learn fourth language also, and this is in elementary and high school… uuhhh.
Your intention was correct. I was wrong and you were right to correct me. On the end I hope we will find a way to appear bride and groom. Maybe someday I will use it. Regards Matt |

Build two Bryce's Screens and place each of them on a rolling platform so you can load from off-stage. Then train the wedding party to close and open the screens. Co-ordinate this to the right piece of music and will have a beautiful production that focuses entirely on the bride and groom. As soon as the Bride and Groom are produced, they should step off the platform, and take a few steps forward. At the same time, the wedding party should take their positions behind them. This will frame the picture and call for a second round of applause. (note: If you want to add a little flash to the produciton, train the wedding party to ignite flint flashers just before they open the screens). Good luck!

I would simply build a large size shadow box....kinda like Copperfield and motorcycle appeared in but smaller. Its simple, not much can go wrong, and shadows are a beautiful appearance. This could be built within a matter of a few days and easily for under 500.00. Its a base on legs, four frame panels with fabric or screens, and the special something. The reason I go this direction is because that dress is going to be a problem in most situations. You can reuse the shadowbox down the road when you need to make a person or persons appear for a corporate gig.

Woah, I think we all misread the post title... If you want a bridge and groom to appear, I'd use the same setup that Copperfield used for the Statue of Liberty. And charge a lot more.

She's the BRIDE! Is that not enough attention for her already?
To me it sounds like she's just made a big list of dream wedding scenarios and is working down the list. "Bride and Groom Appearing by Magic" looks really good on paper, but the practicality of it is another story. Did you even go into what budget she has to make this happen? I'd stay away from it for this reason alone - if it all goes wrong (which could quite likely be their fault, and not yours), then it's going to muck up the whole event. Do you want to be involved with that possibility? Guilt by association ... Keep us posted. |

I would go with Flash Appearance because I used it before for the same occasion in the past.

I think the ideal illusion, if you have control over angles, is a certain illusion in one of U.F. Grant's booklets. The illusion is called The Gate-Way Illusion and is in Modern Illusions. http://www.lybrary.com/modern-illusions-p-3804.html
A large version of The Girl In The Shower from Grant's Illusion Secrets would work if the angles are tougher. It's like an inexpensive version of the modern cabinet. http://www.lybrary.com/grants-illusion-secrets-p-88.html |

How about using something like JC Sum's "Blinded" Illusion ("Worker's Illusion Appearance System")?
http://www.illusionbooks.com/blinded.html Perhaps it could be made into a size that would hold a bride and groom. In the description online, it states: "The Illusion can Accommodate Two Girls or One Male (up to 6' 2" in height). Custom Sizes Available." It's a bit more than your budget as a "Build it yourself" project, but it could be re-used in other shows. - Donald
