I wonder if he knew how to do that before filming the music video. I know he loves Rubik's Cubes and could solve one fairly quickly before filming The Pursuit of Happiness. They are both quirky hobbies.

There was a great YouTube clip going around a couple of years ago of Sulu (George Takei - although not sure if it was really him) doing some pretty spectacular card manipulations on an episode of the original Star Trek. Can't find it now, and don't know how it related to the story.

In the movie Ali, he vanished a silk using a tip. In real life Muhammed Ali likes magic.

I think I had a magic set with that gimmick in it. Made it possible for anyone to do a back p**m.

Sulu didn't do any card tricks in the original Star Trek (That I remember, and I have the set and watch them frequently). In a very early episode a character called Charlie X (I'm pretty sure) does a few card tricks ending with pictures of the spectator on the cards.

Certainly not going to debate a Trekkie... maybe it wasn't Sulu, but could have sworn it was. Did this Charlie X character do manipulations, or just tricks? Because the clip I saw (which was on YouTube, rather than in the context of an entire show), the character suddenly developed this amazing ability to do some pretty impressive card productions and manipulations.

I really don't remember anything like that. I'll have to watch the Charlie X one again but what I remember was pretty simple. Nothing that made me say "I wonder who's hands those are".
There was another episode called "A Piece of the Action" where Kirk makes up a complicated card game to confuse some gangsters. Maybe there was some manipulation in that one. I'm pretty sure on Star Trek the Next Generation there was at least one episode where Data did some fany card work. They had a regular poker game and in one episode were trapped in a Casino on an alien planet. On a side note, your post led me to search youtube and I ended up watching a video of Kirk and Spocks dialogue edited togethor to give a new interpretation of their relationship. Pretty funny, but now I have to try to get that thought out of my mind when I watch the show. Thanks. |
