My presentation for J.C. Wagner's Super Close has a sort of gambling theme. Check it out at http://www.markfarrar.co.uk/jcsuper.htm.

Steranko's 'dead man's hand finale' is interesting. I don't perform it but I'd be interested to hear others' views.

Simon Aronson built three poker deals into the Aronson Stack. You can do them one after the other which uses every card in the deck. I like starting with the Stud deal, then doing two or three phases with the 10 card poker deal and finishing with Simon's Draw poker routine ending with the magician getting a Royal Flush. It's explained in his book "Bound to Please."
On Simon's Web Site he has a section on his stack and you'll find my little additions to Simon's Poker Routine explained in full. Dennis Loomis http://www.loomismagic.com

What are people's favourite gambling effects? For about a year and a half I've been using a home-grown version of the Drunken Poker Deal (generally credited to Persi Diaconis) with really good success. If there's interest, I'll happily post it here. Paul |

I don't do a lot of gambling effects.
I do "title bout" by Martin Nash. I add a little more flavor to it by having a female spectator covering my eyes throughout the entire effect. THAT makes the effect much stronger as you repeatedly cut to four of a kind.. and go into the kicker ending.. Ortiz's "professional" in Scams and fanatasy with cards kills and Hollingworth's "gambling routine" is just a thing of beauty for its simplicity, yet, it is packed with dynamite. PS: Talking about Hollingworth. I gave Waving the Aces another try after watching my friend do a refined version of it (eliminated all the "color/suits" discrepancies).. and WOW.. talk about a powerful effect.

It seems that the list wouldn't be complete without mentioning "The Card Magic of Nick Trost". He has a chapter on Poker Deals with some stuff definitely worth reading.

Best gambling themed routine I know of is the Green Gambler routine in the Ron Ferris book, Apparitions, Animations and Aces. Four red backed Aces are added to the deck in order to let the audience follow the stacking of the deck. The dealer ends up with the red backed cards. At climax the red backed cards have become a royal flush.

To answer all your PM's about Henry Christs "Dead Mans Hand", it can be found in Annemann's Card Magic which is published by Dover.
This was originally in "Ted Annemann's Full Deck of Impromptu Card Tricks" on p58, which was published in 1943. Great plot, great effect.
So much to do. So little time.

Any good poker deals where you don't have to expose the bottom deal?
