Is there a way to end my coin routine (I use totally impromptu methods and sleights) besides just changing the coin into another one?
Because I'm kind of bored of just back-clipping it, and making it reappear somewhere, or making it pass thru my shirt. Is there a way to end my "one-coin illusion" routine? And I'll appreciate it if any intellectual mind could give some input when routining using only one coin when I am "caught off guard" and someone asks me to perform right away. You don't have to "reveal" the secrets, just name the sleights and describe ways to go about routining. Thanks! |

Good idea to figure a one-coin routine for impromptu use. To have a finale, it helps to prepare something. Probably a good idea to carry a small coin like object around, even a loose key.
Then... routining. It’s good to know the Roth and Slydini routines. Also a good idea to have a lapel coin as per the Roth routine. It’s a nice way to prepare your jacket(s). As a routine premise...imagine trying to find a key in the dark. Every time you try to get the key from your pocket to the lock on the door, it turns out to be a coin. Until you take out a coin... and it changes into the key (finish). Just a thought...

Good idea JT.
You could just end your routine by saying... "Here's the key to this routine....." and produce a key ?? Got to like that lapel idea, too.

I have posted a few thoughts on a single coin routine on http://www.coinmagic.com may be worth a look for some sources of inspiration. (I have tried to credit sources where ever possible.)
Enjoy!! |

I use the motivation that the eagle on the back of the coin can actually fly when given a little life. It happens quickly though, so watch... then I go into my one-coin routine. Impromptu I usually end asking if they'd like to see the eagle fly visibly, and I do a high muscle pass to my waiting left hand finger tips, then immediately hand the coin to them. It gets great reactions; trust me.

Um, I'm kind of embarrassed to ask this, but how do I produce the key?
I'm not asking for a "literal" explanation, just name the sleight or "maneuver" (a la pulling it out of spectator's shirt.) I take that producing a key involves the classic palm too? |

David,
After you have worked through Bobo's Modern Coin Magic, The Slydini Books, and David Roth's Expert Coin Magic you will probably have the resources to answer your own question. The only shortcut through the basics is to accept the need to master the basics. And to think I was going to suggest using the eg2eg move... oh well.

Here are a few ways I have ended coin routines over the years.
1. Coin to Apple. (used to end a routine during walk around at Ren Fest) I took a bite and walked off. 2. Coin to Ear 3. Coin to Shot Put (I stopped using that one after someone dropped their hand and the shot put. 4. Coin to beer mat 5. Coin to wind up toy. 6. Coin to small mini coins 7. Coin to ashtray (grabbed at the event) 8. Coin to cookie I have thought of coin to glitter for many years and have seen some great methods. The latest was on Online Vision. It seems workable. Keep growing and glowing and asking what if? Harris

You can even toss the coin to the table and as you pick it back up, you bend to get it and also get the key at the same time. Then just do a shuttle-pass. While you're exposing the key, you dump the coin in your other back pocket ... or something like that.

Thanks!
I already know the basics. However there are LOTS, which I have yet to study. And this "devious classic palm maneuvers" I keep talking about? An old man taught it to me. Frankly, I don't think they've been done before. But with people like T. Nelson Downs who once existed, you never know. The art of magic is one vast universe. So is knowledge. |

How about using some "Neck, Elbow, Knee" ideas?

The question is "why?"...
To have an ending you only need to know why the ending happens. For example... if you are talking about how your grandfather used to pull a quarter out of your ear and do magic with it and you illustrate with a quarter than you can transform it into a jumbo coin with the comment that a quarter looked a lot bigger to you when you were younger. If you are talking about how money slips through your hands and performing coin through hand penetrations you might end with the coin on forehead gag followed the spiked coin revelation. If you're just making the coin disappear and reappear you could end by transforming the coin into a melted coin (ala Johnson's Silver Extraction prop) or otherwise misshapen lump as you explain that you can't do it for long without the coin becoming unstable. Decide why you're doing what you're doing and then find the methods in Bobo's. |
