From the news article
A holiday show in Russia took a ghastly turn Friday when a fire dancer accidentally lit her own face and hands in front of onlookers. Polina Druzhinina, 16, was spinning burning balls soaked in kerosene for a Children's Day crowd of tikes in the city of Tver. When she tried to blow out the flames at the end of her performance, accelerant on her face caught fire, Komsomolskaya Pravda reported. Luckily, no spectators were hurt and doctors say Druzhinina suffered very minor burns

Ha! I used to do that as part of my act. I'd light flash paper inside my mouth, along with highly flammable liquids. You could see my cheeks glowing.....my tongue would get burnt a little, but no biggie. These days, I'm not quite such a pyromaniac. Most "fire eaters" blow the fire, and the flame is OUTSIDE of the mouth. I would have the flame INSIDE my mouth, much more exciting.

I'm glad to hear she will be O.K.
Please post a warning if the video will be shocking. I was expecting curtains catching on fire or something like that. -Mary |

I didn't see a safety-person, like, standing by with a fire blanket and water-jel burn dressings. Of course, I probably wouldn't have seen the need for any of that either when I was 16. Glad she did not get hurt badly.

I am very glad that one of the onlookers thought on their feet and dropped her to the ground to put it out.
Seeing her run makes me realize why stop, drop and roll is a big part of fire safety courses for kids. At least it is in the schools in our area. ~Nanci |

I have had my face catch like that, twice. Like the girl, no serious injuries. Just a tender face the following morning. But once was during a photoshoot for a newspaper, and the resulting photo was spectacular. So there is a plus side.
Unlike the girl in the video I didn't panic. I just beat out the flames and put some water on my face. Luckily she was not injured seriously.

I wonder if she is going to continue the profession or give it up.

She was lucky. There have been others who came out with worst condition.

Glad the kid got off lucky. Now onto fire - whether it be a fire eating act or a simple candle clock routine. Check your insurance. Chances are that anything to do with fire will be excluded from your basic policy. Yes? No?
