Anyone have a thought on this? I do shows that are mostly young ones, but these are school shows done in the evening and so are really "all ages" shows. I would love to be able to stand up on the stage and call out a question to the audience that is not obvious, but have the majority of the spectators call out "Superman". The best way I can think of sounds lame. "Who is your favorite superhero?" and no matter what I hear do a mis-call, and tell them I heard Superman the loudest. That just seems silly and obvious; at least to the adults in the room.

Just say, "Its a bird....its a plane....its......" and let them fill in the blank.
If they don't get that, say: "Who is faster than a speeding bullet and can jump higher than the tallest building?" (I can't remember all the things Superman can do, but you get the idea) Regan

Go for the miracle first, then have a back up force if it doesn't pay off.
I have several ideas that could work, but do you mind me asking what the effect is so I can tell you the one I think is most appropriate?

What's so lame about the best you thought of?
That's how I'd do it.

I think your thinking like a grown up. If you ask most kids today who there favourite superhero is they will not think of Superman. Superman would be really far down on the list. Ironman and Spiderman would be at the top followed by Batman. If you are not using one of those three you are setting yourself up for failure.
Your Question for Superman would have to be very specific. A superhero that flies? Ironman A superhero that is strong? a lot of possibilities A superhero the wears red or blue? Spiderman You get the picture. |

I still think mis-calling is fine. It doesn't have to be the majority; just like normally if you ask an audience to call something out you'll here someone say something and go with that, wether it was a majority or just one.
If you then go into an impressive routine based on Superman, or with a Superman kicker it will be great. To make it more likely to get the response you can plant the seed in their head. "Who likes superheroes?" "Me too! I like spiderman, SUPERMAN (emphasized slightly stronger than the others), hulk, ______" (optional)"Sometimes I even like to pretend I'm Clark Kent; not letting anyone know that underneath I'm really..." [the above is just said dissmissively as a throw away comment that you give up on half way through] "anyways what are favorite superheroes? Just yell them out and we'll pick one." That makes it much more likely that one or more kids will say Superman, in which case you focus on them. If not, just mis-call it and no one will question it.

Put a poster of Superman somewhere outside of the show and take it down (or have someone take it down ) before they leave.
Why not ask who their favorite superhero is without and force and see who is popular and make that the one you use? You could have a Red S semi visible through your shirt.LOL I agree that mis-calling is fine. Superman is sure to come up. -Mary Mowder |

1st thought is the Pateo.
Are you going to take off your glasses and reveal the "Big S", under your shirt? 2nd silly way...use Kryptonite(green) 3rd silly way...use Kryptonite(red) the results will be very unpredictable Harris for truth, justice and the nearly normal wave..and still a reader of comic (er graphic novels these days) I started reading them when they were but 12cents American.

I remember being so disappointed when I walked to the store to get one and found they had gone from 10 to 12 cents, and I didn't have two pennies! Ed |

When I make balloons, I take out a red balloon and a blue on. I give the kids a hint "this is a SUPERhero". 85% of the time they name Superman, with 14% being Spiderman and the remaining 1%ish being other superheros.
I say just ask them to name a SUPERhero (emphasis on super). You will get lucky more often than not. For those non-ideal outcomes, just use a force bag (or a blank force deck that you print different superhero name upon. The force bag is the out. Jeoy D |

I'm researching old Superhero threads for this summer's Reading programs.
My brain can't remember the name..but you could adapt the card effect where the audience thinks all the cards are say 5 clubs, but the spectator picks the King of diamonds. Copperfield and others have done it with record covers. It could also be done with Super Hero Comics (formerly 12 cents) and now Graphic Novels (currently $14 - $40) Please help with name of effect Got it McCombical Deck

You can get various super hero greeting cards as party invitations at party supply stores (like Party City, for example) so you can make the McCombical Deck with those.

Creating magic doesn't have to be rough.
What off the shelf product would you recommend for that kind of paper?

Why not incorporate a pre-trick trick? Maybe getting a volunteer onstage to pick a "random" superhero's name from a container with many names? (And of course they will unwittingly pick Superman).

Or use jumbo sized cards with pictures of superheroes on them. Then use anyone of your favorite forces to force the Super-Man card

If you wanted to get really fancy you could make up a colouring book with all the various super heroes showing and then force superman Svengali style. Just thinking of a way to make the force more book oriented to suit your reading theme.

If you own Cereal Killer then you could use a similar principle with superheroes.
