Back in the old days there really wasn't much choice. Magic Marker lines were too thick and Flair Pen lines were too thin. Sharpies were just right. There are many more choices on the market now but I suspect that Sharpie is still the most popular brand overall with magicians and regular people.

My response is, why not? It's a personal preference and it's an easily obtained marker that writes well on cards. If you like the sherpa better, more power to you. It's adds a touch of class to an otherwise dull prop.

If it fits to your style, if it looks natural, if it is a more or less common objects, if it fullfill the purpose (thickness etc.)-> why not
If not, take the one which fullfills the points. In Germany we have serval brands of markers, I have the one people recognize, that´s it

Easy to sign cards with them; easily stolen from the office; etc.

This may be closer to the truth than many might want to admit! Smile

Because I couldn't say "be careful, its a Sharpie." with any other pen (I've never really used this line).

They write on cards and have a good streamlined look. They are available in a variety of colors. The light grey barrel makes for easy finding in a Close-Up Case. The clip allows for a p**l attachment or can be used to hold a folded card etc... in your pocket or case. The tapered tip will allow a "squirt" move for sle****g.

I'd love to find a bluntie fat tipped pen like a bingo marker in permanent and dry erase. The big Chisel tip is too thin in one dimension. Sharpies are good for cards but something fatter would be good for stage.

No one has mentioned the lovely smell. LOL

That's the real reason we use Sharpies. The fumes have the power to cloud spectators' minds.

I've been using sharpie's since I started working in advertising. They were great for doing layouts. Because of the thickness of the tip, they're perfect for having cards signed. Like others, I prefer the metal versions.
