Recently I have decided to purchase a Penguin Live lecture to see if I like the format; however, I cannot decide between the Joshua Jay and the Daniel Garcia lectures. Typically I like to work more with cards, but I am really trying to branch out and move into magic with everyday objects so that I don't have to be "that guy". I consider myself to be a hobbyist and have no plans for large shows anytime soon (maybe restaurant work in the fall to help support my college tuition), but am quite dedicated when it comes to learning sleights, and for the past few years I've had an emphasis on hardcore card/gambling sleights. Ideally, the effects that I perform would have minimal setup and use borrowed objects. That being said, which lecture do you think is stronger and why? Other advice is always appreciated .

Garcia lecture in my opinion. It covers a vast amount of trick with everyday objects such as rubberbands, bills and iphones.

I loved the Josh Jay lecture! He shows tricks, sleights and coins. His 3 coin vanish is top notch!

They're both excellent. You can't go wrong either way.
What I'd do is watch the trailers for each and see whose style appeals to you more. I kind of think you might like Josh's more because he does teach a few sleights and the card routines are very practical. But, Garcia's is fantastic too. I think the Penguin Live format is great and I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't wind up buying both. |

It depends on what you are performing on. Seeing that you mainly work on cards and would want to experiment on other stuff, I would prefer Danny's. I would recommend Josh's lecture if you would want a parlor or stand-up stage act. Most of his effects packs small but plays big. His first two effects are mindblowing and easy to do. Danny, on the other hand, has a plethora of creative effects on his lecture, with tons of card stuff as well.
