I would like to thank everyone for the input they have provided. I would like to say when I first posted the topic I had a good basis for the hold outs (classic, finger, ect.) I was more or less looking for some extra books/resources to help aid me in the upcoming months. Before I had tried anything else in Bobo I went about 2-3 months just doing the classic/edge palm to make sure it looked good. Durring those months I didn't even look at anything else in the book. After progressing thought, I felt that Bobo's book is boring. I know that in this day there are usually 100's of books the cover the same topic. I like to have 3-4 books on a subject and use them all at one time. For instance the classic palm I would open each book up to that section and read all of them. I think that getting more views on a subject helps me in the developement of my skills.
I would like to thank Brad I think that your post was quite good and honest. I know the curve looks like a 2^x, but it is nice to know that it may grow flat at a certain point. I really think coins have been the hardest of all the magic I have learned so far. It is very demanding and it uses muscles that a person rarely uses that in itself makes it hard. As an update I am firmly good on the basic hold outs and vanishes. I have gone through roughly more then 1/3 of the book (coins across section). I am going at a slow pace because I want to make sure that I am good at the fundementals and I like to try every effect in the book (even if I don't think I will like it). From the advice I did get Roth's Expert Coin Magic and Ammar's Intro to Coins. I really like Ammar and knew I would from the outset because I also have his cups dvds. I am very thankful for all the advice and tips I have from this forum. |

I specialize in coins, puppets and music.
Though I started with Bobo, I also like Kaufman's Coin magic and many many more. Try older books, like Buckley as well as earlier published magazines and manuscripts. (York, Bertrand, Buckingham...sometimes it is not easier than you think) If you get to KC area (USA) let me know. I love to jam with coin magicians. Harris

I'd say get DVDs instead of books. I've used both and for coins, DVDs helped the most.

I've had Bobo's, Roth's and Ammar's book for years and they are a wealth of knowledge. But after going through Eric Jones metal DVD series, it really inspired me to go back through my books at notice gems I had long since forgotten were even in there. I guess seeing someone else's handling of moves and tricks has given new life to some things I had dismissed.
