My fellow children’s entertainers - I have encountered a hurdle while trying to raise the bar on my performances. Remote controlled music. Any advice on affordable products/ brands or systems would be greatly appreciated.

Look through the "F/X" area of the Café. Lots of threads on various set-ups. iPods with remotes, MP3 players with remotes (Happie Amp is releasing a new one next month), MP3-Tech*, laptop or notebook computers with remotes, etc.
- Donald P.S. * Note - If you read through some old threads talking about Show-Tech or MP3-Tech, you'll find an old link. The website http://www.wirelesswizardry.com no longer works. Instead, use the website http://www.theceswebsite.com .

There is this one thing called the Ceseral sound system which has all sorts o hidden remotes and allows you to play music note-by-note with each touch of a buton....which would be cool for a bubble-popping routine.
Everybody wants to beleive.....we just help them along.

Hi White Wizard,
I use a simple ipod with a remote here is a link http://www.priceinspector.co.uk/d/503486......e-prices I patch the dock into my pa and away we go. The best advice I can give on using an ipod with a remote is to have a recorded silence of around an hour and put this in-between tracks and sound effects. The reason is an ipod goes to sleep if inactive for a certain time which makes the remote unresponsive, by having silent tracks playing the ipod remains awake. I alternate my tracks music, silent, music, silent. I hope this makes sense. |

Hey, try this app called Show Cues for your iPod Touch, iPad or iPhone - it's awesome. All the control of mp3 Tech for a fraction of the price, and an ankle switch on the way!

I think it's more fair (?) to compare an ipod with remote and app to an MP3 player with remote. The MP3 Tech or Show Tech is beyond that, as would be the Cesaral Soundmaster, as would be a netbook or laptop computer running a certain program.
When comparing an ipod app to an MP3 player with remote, I would factor in the cost of the ipod / ipod touch / ipad / iphone itself, plus the cost of the remote, plus the cost of the software. When I add it all up, the costs don't seem a lot different. Granted, a number of people already have an ipod, so they don't usually factor that into the costs. But if you don't own one, then that's a cost to consider. - Donald

I used to use an IJet with an Ipod. I would run into issues (distance the remote works, line of sight issues, the IPod timing out)
I bought a mp3tech and never looked back. Joey D |

George, I bought it from Axel about 3 years ago, it's a bit of a mess of cables and wireless transmitters which you need to have in the pockets of your outfit. iJet remotes have far surpassed what Axel's system could do and a a fraction of the cost. I still have the booklet if you're interested.
Donald, I can buy an iPad, an iJet remote (or a custom remote from Shawn) and Show Cues for less than half the price of mp3 Tech. They're NOWHERE near the same price. Plus it's an iPad, how many other fantastic things can you do with it? I predict a massive price drop of mp3 Tech, because people are going to vote with their wallets. |

Cheers, Gary. Maybe that's why it's off the site then...
He seems so efficient. Is that me stereotyping? His newspaper thing is class though. George PS Gonna buy your dvd this week. Want to try and get a vid of my presentation of picture fun before I nick all your gags... I've been doing it a while and it's not there yet, I do have some nice moments in it though. |

Picture Fun is a very underrated piece of entertainment... I love it. The gags are there for nicking, that's why they're on the DVD.

I am always reluctant to take others' advice on face value because their expecations and performance requirements may be different. I wish there was someone on the FX section that could lay out all the popular choices with strengths and weaknesses - like Dan McLean aka Magic Roadie did a while back. |

I called Brian Happie over the phone to order Happie Amp and Ultimate Control. He told me there are only two more slots with the bonuses of Ultimate Control available.
