Hey guys, just a quick question regarding colors.
I have 10 or so stock balloon animals that I am practising and making really fast. They are 2-3 balloon animals and can be seen in the thread "this little boy went to market" I however have no (or few)balloon animals that use the following colors: Grey Lt blue Blush Chocolate Orange Black Dark blue I was wondering if you could give some ideas of things that you make that use these colors. If you have a link to a good tutorial that would be better (but not essential, as I can YouTube/google it myself) I can obviously make an orange flower or an orange dog or an orange bunny but I wouldn't make one of them very often. Thanks for your help! Jake |

It seems you are limiting which colors you use for a specific creation. Why? If they ask for a dog, let them choose the color. Dogs, flowers, swords, etc look good in any color.

I'm getting excited about these DVDs!!!!!
I agree Wes, my dog uses white and a chosen colour My flower uses green and a chosen colour My rabbit uses white and 2 chosen colors My flower bracelet uses 2 chosen colors. I don't really make swords.... I know there easy, but there almost too easy, a bit like a 1 balloon dog. The problem is, how often does someoen ask you for an orange dog???? I use white a lot (about 35% of my creations) so I know I am going to use it. With orange, if no one asks for an orange flower, then I come home with 100 orange balloons. If I have an orange giraffe hat, (should have soon)then I know I am going to use it. I want to use an even spread of all the colors, it just makes it easier when ordering. |

After a few rounds of balloon twisting gigs, you will have an idea how much colors are used.
Once you have an idea, buy individual colored bags. In that way, you will be able to control the colors used. For me, I tend to buy more White, Pink, Red & Yellow color. |

I would make a sword with black and gray, lt blue, dark blue, or even orange. You could combine gray with all those colors too. I would use the blush and chocolate along with mocha and lime for a monkey in a tree.
I have phased out certain colors. I never use pink, instead I use Rose or Wild Berry. I don't order ivory, robin's egg, periwinkle, or any crystal colors. I order much more black, white, red, and dark blue than any other colors. I think the design is more important than the colors. I can't tell you how often I get a request for a pink penguin or blue giraffe. |

Majake, - I know you are just starting out so funds may be limited, but buy the single color bags (price per bag is lower if you buy from a balloon distributor as opposed to a retail store). Start with the 5 or so you really want and then add others as you feel the need. My event bag has 17 colors plus hearts, 321's, 5"rounds, etc. My busking apron has 9 colors plus hearts & others. Both set-ups include the 160, 260 & 350 sizes. But it is fine to start out with the basic 5-8 basic colors in 260's plus the hearts assortment. I have an inventory system so I only order the colors/types that need to be replaced. I also encourage you to get a quality balloon apron/bag. Twistemup has several smaller sizes for under $50, other companies have good products as well. A good apron/bag will keep your balloons organized and easy to find the color you need enabling you to work faster. LOL - my first balloon bag was a diaper bag I bought at Goodwill. I would "load it" by placing the single color bags inside. It was cheap, looked decent, was a conversation piece but made it difficult to locate the colors quickly. I was soooo glad when I was able to buy my first balloon apron |

I have been using this bag for more than 5 years: http://www4.mailordercentral.com/tmyersm......ber=3009 It's only $17, add on shipping, it may cost you about $20-$25 to Australia. For the 7 pockets apron, I'll organize my colors as follows: "Hot" colors in one pocket (Red/Yellow/Orange) "Cool" colors in one pocket (Pink/White/Blue) Green color in one pocket Dark colors in one pocket (Purple/Black/Dark Blue) Hearts, 5" balloons in small pocket In this way, it is faster to search for the colors that you want, and even if you get the wrong color, it's still near the color family. |

Thanks for your advice!!!
After I run out of the 400 balloons I have currently (shouldn't be long) I am going to buy some balloons in individual bags Probably 100 Pink Lilac Lime Chocolate Mocha White Black Red Yellow Orange As well as whatever 160's, hearts and 5' rounds I need to make the balloon hats on marks DVD (still very excited) Plus an apron. Should come to approximately $100, so I get the discount! |
