1986 (1985 year of development), was what I consider Tenyo's worst year for releases. T-119 to T-122. I've eliminated the very beginning years because Tenyo did not really create anything new until 'See Through Card'. A fluke year. The all-star inventors all had better previous & later effects imo. What's everyone's vote around here?

For me, 2005 has been the worst year of all (T215-T219)

2003 is not fabulous execept Confined cubes.
1995 and 1996 are two years wich are really impressive, and really "Tenyo". |

Yup, for sure, imo, they're both dog years too. Mind you, I must confess a certain fondness for T-215 'Magician's Matchbox'. I've always really enjoyed the unwrapping of the gift box even more than the appearance of the rabbit or dove. T-216 'Mystery Poodle' has always played well to the ladies & kids. General cuteness, I'm guessing. Funny how some things appeal to some yet are disliked by others. I've always found a huge gap between what appeals to magicians & what really grabs the public. Are you performers experiencing the same difference in many cases?

2009 is a year where Tenyo put out not to good items in my opinion, an exeption is the FLOATING CARD by Angelo Carbone. Other that were produced that year were MILLIONAIRES'DREAM, SHRINKING PEN, ILLUSION TRUCK and CHINA SURPRISE.
And yes Inert, you are absolutely right. For example I didn't think much of 4D SURPRISE but it gets fantastic reactions with my audiences everytime. On the other hand I like MYSTERY CHINA BOX a lot but my audiences aren't ethousiastic about it. |

I would agree 2009 was a dismal group.

I agree with Mystery China Box, never understand why everyone loves it. So simple to figure out and not really impressive. But clever mechanism for sure.

Lol Mr.Wizard. Not only that, but I think Nicolino put a contract out on them both for trashin' his fav effect.
The years 2003, 2005 & 2009 make perfect sense in their decline. 2 out of 3 of the master inventors where done inventing by then. Mr.Sugawara was also winding down his input. From the above years, I thought T-253 'Animation Frame' was pretty darn good. Sort of an updated Floating Lady. T-235 'Magical Door' was no slouch either imo. The other stand-outs from this time period were already pointed out by Killertweety & Stereo I think. |

I just got a Mystery China box- Thanks to John Mazza! I was really delighted with the mechanism, and I am really happy with it.
Yes, magical door was another great effect with beautiful props and a logical design for a penetration effect. John |

If presented properly, "Illusion Truck" can be intriguing.
The original Japanese version of "Animation Frame" with Pinoccio, is much better than the US version, but Tenyo doesn't own the rights to use Disney images outside Japan. To me, the worst trick put out in recent years is that stupid dumpling. It looks nothing like the Chinese dumplings in the US (none of which have a green pea on top) and both the trick and method are poor. |
