It's amazing what the scientists and engineers at NASA accomplished with the Mars Rover Landing. Here is a video of the descent and then the eventual touch down of the Mars Rover Curiosity. Now, that, is true magic: http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/videogall......50964561 My deep respect for those scientists and engineers. They really accomplished something to be proud of and worthwhile. It's an amazing feat to be able to land a rover onto Mars.

Too bad they couldn't keep their program going.

I was just marveling at what a great accomplishment this was and the vast potential and opportunity that space exploration offers. What is also interesting is that it seems that such an amazing and great feat as this gets little interest from people when it is reported in the news but then when some kind of crime or shooting spree occurs, that's all anybody wants to talk about and take interest in rather than marvel and discuss the vast potential of space exploration and the opportunities it offers. Personally, I think space, the vast opportunity that space offers is far more interesting than some crazed lunatic going on a shooting ramapage somewhere. The law is going to deal with him and it seems vastly more important to focus on positive news and the vast positive potential that the space program offers. This is great news (the Mars landing) and it would seem more logical that people would prefer to focus on good news such as this and why the space program hasn't gotten more funding. The American taxpayer gets a huge return on investment when it's spends money on the space program (I have visited the Kennedy Space Center once in Florida), yet it seems the nation would prefer to spend money on things which are wasteful and do not provide any return on investment while gutting money from programs like the space program which does provide a return on investment to taxpayers. Doesn't make any sense to me why people would oppose funding the space program which does provide a return on investment while support funding programs which does not provide any return on investment. Ohh well! I guess mankind still has a long ways to go when it comes to it's own evolution from a destructive species to a more productive species intent on doing productive things rather than destructive things. But these NASA scientists and engineers really have earned and deserve to be treated as heroes for their accomplishments and contribution to society and mankind.

I don't know if the program will be shut down or not, but I heard this recent success helps to make it more likely that it doesn't get shut down. I hope they don't shut down space and Mars exploration. There is also a private company that is seeking to put a man and eventually a colony on Mars and has been consulting with several private aerospace companies around the world.
The organization or company is called "Mars One." Here is the link: http://mars-one.com/en/ . I hope to be able to live long enough to see the day that we put a man on Mars. How cool would that be? I mean, then afterwards there will be space vacations to Mars via commercial space flight. Visiting Hawaii won't top that!

As far as I know, re: NASA, is that the shuttle program has ended but NASA itself is still in operation.

NASA is alive and well as evidenced by their home page, which also contains a nice tribute to Neil Armstrong:
