Is anyone doing it? I ask because if there are any shortcuts that others have found for dealing with angle problems? I am ordering balls and I am starting to work on traditional billiard routines. I figure I will be ready by next Spring/Summer, ready to see what I need I need to fix to make it work best in our environment. I figure by year after next it will be good to go for the street, a paying act I mean.
I am going to buy a Happy Amp this winter and I am toying with the idea of doing the ball routine as a build to music or rhyme. This would basically remove the Silk Vanish from my show as I would be doing a manipulation act as the build and to stop crowds. It will be visual and it will make noise so it meets the criteria as crowd building act for the street. I have some 1.5" silicone balls I am practicing with. I will be ordering some Fakini's in a week or so to really get serious. |

The people up front will see a magic show, those in back will watch a juggling act.
Seriously, Jeff Sharadan did the B balls on the street for years.
One of the last living 10-in-one performers. I wanted to be in show business the worst way, and that was it.

Gr8gorilla, keep in mind that YOU have to stop the crowd. people come to see YOU and then what you do and then what you say. make people curious. start making productions of balls behind the ears of children then when you have created rapport move on to the ball routine. you need a crowd first to to show the routine to. not the otherway around.
study Sonny Holliday. he does some great manipulations http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwcKYL93J_E |

Street magician Istivan does/did an absolutely wonderful ball routine on the street. I've seen him hold huge crowds with it. Brilliant.

Robert Blake, thank you for the advice. I can stop a crowd and usually keep them. Noise ordinances could prevent my use of amplification on the street proper, however festivals are fair game. My thinking was some repetitive looping music that I could do a repeating, short, visual routine to. I will of course do productions from spectators that stop during this. I will do the actual routine once a large enough edge is built.
I feel like this could work better than a silk vanish. I also have some ideas about using the balls as a recurring joke and possibly the final loads for my cups and balls. I have also considered the removal of the cups in favor of the ball and cone. Or a logical progression from billiard balls, to ball and cone and finally C&B. I like the billiard balls because the effects are so visual and magical. Another bonus is that since they require skill most people won't have seen uncle bad card trick do it. |
