Does anybody know if there are any good magic shops in Edinburgh? (or Glasgow at a pinch Smile Not for anything particular, just wanted to go and browse.

Or am I being a bit optimistic?

Cheers

You can try these guys, I haven't been myself so I'd be interested in your comments if you do go.

As for Edinburgh, I haven't heard of any.

Happy browsing.

Are you definitely looking for a shop?

I think you will find that most people in the UK shop online as quality magic shops are few and far between. (I've not heard of one near me).

You could try

http://www.magictricks.co.uk
or
http://www.alakazam.co.uk

They are both good site's with a good selection.

Hope this helps

Blimey P.T., you're near enough to London! What is it, 40 minutes? (Davenports, International, you could visit Kaymar on a weekend, not too far. You are nearer to several magic shops than most of us!)

What do you consider near, 100 yards down the road? lol.

As for most people in the UK shopping on line, is this a guess or statement of fact! I think you have no evidence to support this and a lot of older people that I speak to at conventions are not on line! And some that are are still wary of shopping on line. My business is purely mail order with VERY few on line.

As for Tam Shepherd's in Glasgow, Alex, the man behind the counter is none other than Roy Walton, an award winner from the Academy of Magical Arts and one of the finest card magicians alive today. He generally has some very good prices on books.

If you buy his books you could get him to sign them for you. Smile Most of Scotland's current well known card workers have been inspired by Roy Walton.

I lectured in Edinburgh last month, you do know there is a magic club there don't you?
I think Doc Eason from the USA lectured for them last night (20th)

Good advice there Paul H,

London is spoilt with 2 fine shops in International Magic and Davenports.

The 2 websites -
http://www.magictricks.co.uk and
http://www.alakazam.uk
have been very helpful for people in the UK and abroad that live nowhere near a magic shop and would cost them a fair bit to travel to.

I remember someone in the South West complaining about the lack of shops and could only ever purchase magic on-line.

In the websites favour, they do tend to sell cheaper than shops, maybe lack of shop rental space charges?

As for web sites in the UK there is always
http://www.PH-Marketing-magic.co.uk
also, but unfortunately, it is currently down with server host problems! Come and visit when I'm up and running again, there are some exclusive packet tricks not available elsewhere.

I don't stock stuff just because it's new,
I stock it because it's good!

No Wallace, You are probably looking at a cached page from your own computer having visited the site before, it is sadly still down, just checked myself!

Raising false hopes there, lol.
Hope you're keeping well.

Tyrdius,
I was in Edinburgh a couple of years ago (I grew up 30 miles from Edinburgh) and try as I might I couldn't find one magic shop. I tried yellow pages, tourist information and others, no luck. Sorry I can't be of help.
