Guys,
I'm looking for a supply of magic colouring/teach simple tricks books. The company that has the ad in Magic Magazine won't ship outside the USA. There has been one or two other brands on Ebay but I've had no luck bidding there. Can anybody help? |

I had a nice converstion with Marty Martini related to international sales, taxes, transport fees, etc. One almost pays double for a product.
In situations like this it almost easier to create one and market it locally. Have you looked into Eric Paul's CD for Magicians? It is Ed Harris Clip Art stuff, and you get the rights to reproduce stuff for yourself. Simple magic you can do. Then there is CJ Johnson's Instant Author book which is right on target here. A few adjustments, then print your own magic booklet with a picture of you on the cover! Great worthwhile deal here. And coloring pages, there's got to be a graphic artist in your local college who can create easy to color pages of you as a magician. Put on your thinking cap and go for it!

Being an artist and a graphic designer, I design my own coloring fliers that Dennis was talking about. They are a great hit at any children's party and a perfect way to get your name out there and have your name placed on the fridge for everyone to see.
I also design magicians assistant's certificates that I give out to all my helpers. These also have my information on them and the kids keep them because it makes them feel special and the star of the day. If anyone is interested in how to best go about producing these, please PM me and I would be happy to help you out.

Have you considered putting together your own magic sets?
I've had a lot of success selling magic kits and I've also had success using the magic kit as a promotional tool. Kits are a little more flexible with what you can do with them than simple magic coloring sheets. (Plus you can get more for them...) |

Where does it say what's actually in the kit?
How do you handle the children who want a kit (like the others) but didn't bring any money with them? |

Now THAT's what I call a sales pitch!

It's hard a very young kid with big round eyes doesn't understand money and his parents aren't in sight comes up with the others, the urge to let him have it is strong but you have to say no and tell him/her to go get mumor dad, if your making other people pay you can't let someone else have it for free. it's not fair. I only sell at holiday camps, fetes etc and if some kid I know, (A friends kid etc) comes up and I want them to have it for free, I take their money and then give them their change which is really their money back, that way no-one else knows they's had it for free.
Yours Funfully

If Your doing School shows , never give away junk.
ie Candy etc. I always give away something they can make good use of at school. egs Colouring pencils, pens , rulers, bookmarks. A nice bookmark with Your logo or safety message would be perfect. cheers |

I tried selling before after my magic act. I don't feel comfortable, it makes me feel like a hustler. Another disavantage is I want to focus on putting away my props and animals before the kids get to them.

I do sell after my performances, but I only do this at my fair and festival events. I have found that most of the entertainers do it as well and I always ask the event person if it is ok before I do it.
My show is situated in such that I can break down and clear the stage quickly following a performance. Because of this, it causes no inconvenience to any of the other performers and gives me a chance to man my table. I also love to meet and greet my audiences following a fair or carnival show. It is my way to thank them for being there that day and I like to give out my postcards and posters and sign them for all the children. I also teach kids magic at an area Society of Young Magicians club in philadelphia. This table after my show helps give them a chance to find out more information about the club or how to get started in magic.
