Can anyone add to this list of references for 3 copper and 3 silver transpositions? I am most interested in routines where (1) the coins change one at a time and are shown (or remain in view) after each transposition, (2) there are no other props involved, and (3) the gimmicks don't cost over $200. Basically, I'm looking for routines closely resembling "The Coins of Ishtar," but I'm interested to hear whatever comes to mind. So, if you think of a trick that doesn't satisfy one of the criteria above, feel free to mention it here but please prudently explain where/how it departs. Lastly, the coins don't have to be copper and silver; they can be buttons and chinese coins for all I care.
Thank you in advance! All the best! -Akal Singh Three Copper & 3 Silver Transposition Routines: 1) "The Coins of Ishtar" in "The Coins of Ishtar" by Jules DeBarros 2) "The Coins of Jersey" on "Extreme Coin Magic" (DVD) by Joe Rindfleisch 3) "Imperial Ishtar" by Ken Krenzel in "Coin Magic" by Richard Kaufman (Ed.) 4) "Relentless but Honest" in "All the World's a Stage" by Curtis Kam (Can anyone describe this routine, especially in terms of the criteria I've listed? I've never seen it. Anyone have that book for sale?) 5) "[Trick title? Anyone know?]" in "Here Comes the Sun (and the Moon)" by David Neighbors (I'm inferring from a post elsewhere on the Café that this one costs $$$ thus failing to meet the criterion #3. Can anyone confirm?) |

Here comes the sun and moon by David N is a book specifically using the custom UWC gimmick set.
You could try to put one together yourself using a series of commercial gaffs but it will not look clean. Cal

I have an effect in which three different coins are used -- possibly CSB. Each of three spectators chooses a coin and holds it in their hand. Later, each has a different coin than the one chosen -- a triple transposition in the hands of spectators. The handing out of the coins is done is steps so that the person getting the first coin can see the other two, etc. -- and each person attests to the coin held before the reveal.
No gaffs. I originally did this with colored stones so any items can work. Would this meet your needs?

I do an ungimmicked 3 for 3 from Curtis K.
There are 2 versions. One uses a goblet, and one is done in the hands. I think it is on the Palms of steel 2 video. He uses Silver and Chinese Coins. This summer I have been using the English Pennies and connect the routine with the 2012 Summer Olympics. In another routine, I do a 2nd change and the coins morph into a 3rd "color". All with regular coins. It was part of my award winning routine for Kansas City's Ring 129 Close up contest 2012. Harris palms of aluminum foil for a lighter touch in coin magic

I have All the world's a Stage. Won't part with it, don't ask Curtis' routine requires no gaffs just an extra Chinese coin and you're all set. The effect as discribed by Curtis is "Transpose three half dollars with threeersatz Chineses coins, one at a time ending with a highly visual last jump". Curtis can answer this better than me. But, from the credits in his write up I take it, his routine is based on "Relentless by Bill Voss from Apocalypse 2:8. There is also a reference to Mendoza. I'm assuming John must also have a routine in print somewhere? (Curtis?) Also in a booklet "Magic with a Copper/Silver coin" by Jerry Mentzer. His routine "Not So relentless" his routine uses three half dollars and three copper coins and one c/s coin. Hope this helps, Joe

If you learn the EG2EG sleight and then work with one extra (as with Curtis's routine) you can do a pretty convincing 3x3 transposition.

In the new york coin magic seminar dvd series, there are several routines that meet some of tne criteria you mention. I am on vacation so I can't reference the volumes, but Roth's Purse and Glass is a one at a time transposition of three silver to three copper. It uses a purse and a glass as props, as does Latta's variation. Gallo has a quickie version without the purse and glass, and later in the series I have a version with three copper and three silver ungaffed coins, but it uses a glass and a gimmicked purse. There are many other routines that have three silver coins changing into three copper coins, one at a time, but as I said, I can't reference the volumes at this time.

Yes, loads of good coin stuff throughout the NYCMS DVD treasure chest. It's quite a treatise on coin magic from some great practitioners like Doc & The Boys.

Wow, I'm amazed that you came across the reference to my routine in "All The World's A Stage". There were only 500 copies of that book ever printed, at least by me. I've only got one copy somewhere. All I suppose you need to know about Relentless, But Honest is that the last transposition is visible, courtesy of Richard Kaufman's "Visual Drop Switch", and a bit of one-behind routining. (that might be what I got from John Mendoza, I'm not sure)
It might be interesting for you to see that routine, but if you're exploring the one-by-one triple Transpo, the routine you should study is Paul Rylander's. It's in the Sphinx Jubilee book, (1951) which is available in ebook form. But the good news is that Rylander's routine was extensively studied by a real genius of coin magic, and his findings, and his routine, are in Kort, The Magic of Milt Kort. See "Korting Rander's Silver and Copper" on page 137. The routine fooled everyone back in the day, and I wouldn't expect and different results today. Good luck in your studies, I hope this is of some assistance.

In volume 13 of the nycms dvd series I have a routine called the magicial change purse, where 3 silver coins change places one at a time with 3 copper coins put inside a coin purse. Its a streamlimed version of my purse and glass routine , done without the glass to make it a table hopping version.

Thanks everybody for responding to this inquiry!
Joe Mystre71, thanks for the background info on Curtis's routine and especially for the Voss/Apocalypse and Mentzer references. I've unsuccessfully tried to read straight through Apocalypse so many times, it's refreshing to be directed to a specific place! That routine was very helpful to read. As for "All the World's a Stage," I won't ask... but you know who to contact if it ever needs a new caretaker. Mr. Neighbors, thanks for the references! I look forward to your material being more accessible! Dr. Rubinstein, thank you for posting and getting back to us later. I have the majority of those DVD, but not up to volume 13! Thanks for explaining how the routines do or don't fit my criteria. Last, but not least, thank you Mr. Kam for giving the basic idea of your routine. That was very generous of you. And thank you for the Sphinx reference. Again, it's a blessing to be guided through my own library! I don't have the Milt Kort book, but am on the look out for it now. That routine sounds great! Thank you for that tip! Humbly, -Akal Singh |
