I picked up my new Anchor Liberty system today. I will break it in at an informal function on Saturday to give it a test drive and post results here.

Haven't had time to post the followup... here you go.
I used an Anchor Liberty unit with a wireless mic on a stand and a cd-player. We were located outdoors in an open-sided pavilion at a park. There were three people who had to use the system -- I performed magic, a woman sang, and then a minister gave a short talk. There was more than adequate amplification of everything including the music piped in from my cd-player. The system is extremely convenient, and this version is a little heavy due to the heavy duty rechargeable batteries. But that allowed me to take it out to this park and work with no extension cords. If I expected to do a lot of outdoor work, I would probably invest in the companion speaker unit to get even more sound, but this unit by itself provides more of a boost than I expect I will ever need. Next week I will take it to Underground Atlanta to use in my street performing. I'm going to set it up outside but in front of a brick wall so that I don't lose half the sound as it goes behind me... I'll try to post a follow-up from that, too. Bottom line -- this is a bulky but very versatile unit. There are smaller ones that provide adequate amplification for many situations, but I can use this for audiences from just a couple dozen folks all the way up to 1000 people in a banquet hall or auditorium. Used it tonight at a gig... banquet show, but I was on a stage, with banquet tables set up on the floor level. Couldn't have been more than 100 people at this dinner.
Anyway, I used the system for music and speech and the amplification was superb. No problems with feedback or anything, even when I went down into the floor level a few times during the show. The more I use it, the more I like it. JMT |

I do freelance work as an engineer/technicion for an audio company here in the Boston area that's an Anchor dealer. They also use the Liberty on their gigs all the time; we just did the really large commencement at Brandeis University, and had three of them running, one at the press area to provide a feed for the reporters, and two in a reception room to provide a feed of what was going on in the big arena.
They kept their paces with the massive system in the main arena beautifully (and we're talking a system that could easily have handled a small to mid-sized concert in addition to a commencement, if you just added a few subwoofers :o) BTW, even the non-battery ones are a bit on the heavy side, FWIW. --Andy P.S.-The feedback or lack thereof has nothing to do with the quality of the speakers, but the structure of the room or space you're in, the EQ of the sound system, etc. Even the best sound system in the world feeds back at some point, it just happens that the engineers go in and make sure it's set so it won't before the audience gets there (and boy, does it sound nasty when we are doing that setting ;o) That said, the Liberty is still a terrific speaker, I just wanted to point out that the lack of feedback has nothing to do with that :o)

Thanks. I am not an audio expert, obviously, but I do think I made a wise decision when I purchased this system.

I don't think that the Liberty is heavy. I use a Crate Limo amp, with a built-in battery, weighing in at 35 lbs. It's not bad for the price and the 50 watts of power.
