I had an interesting show at a Senior Living Center yesterday. They hired me to do 1 hour of walk around for a
nightclub type setting they were doing for the residents. The residents were served "Cocktails". Well I'm working the front of the room and probably 10 minutes or so into the table hopping. I look up and all of the residents are moving there chairs and wheel chairs to the front and setting up like a theater setting! They all want to see what is going on. Good thing I had a back up plan and brought enough Parlor sized magic to cover about 30 minutes. I did the show and closed with working a few more tables to make the hour. WOW! The activity director apologized and said that they were expecting a lot of family members to be there, which would have kept the residents occupied until I got to their tables. She thanked me for bringing the backup magic. It worked out, but threw me for a loop for a second when I saw the resident coming toward me at the front. I'm glad I made the extra effort to bring back up. I'm sure I'm not the first to experience this. It was just my first. Jack

That was really smart of you to be prepared with some backup magic. I've worked nursing homes and assisted living facilities and it always amazes me at how many of these folks are ignore by their families. At least your show kept some of them from feeling bad, I'll bet.

Wow, good planning. It's also a good lesson for the rest of us to be prepared for these things!

It is sad Highcard. I usually arrive early and walk around and talk to some of the residents. For the most part, their families are still there for them, but there are some that are just left alone. Hopefully, we as entertainers can bring a little joy into their lives and maybe give them a break from what they are going through.
Thanks for the response guys.

There is nothing that quite strikes fear like being rushed by a bunch of geriatrics. LOL
I've had this kind of thing happen before, although never with this type of show. It does pay to be prepared and flexible.
