No, this is not about some strange form of gospel magic. I just want to know how best to store my spring snakes. It seems to me if they are kept coiled in their can they might lose some of their jump.

Do you store yours in the can, or let them rest uncoiled? And where in the heck to you keep a bunch of uncoiled snakes? Do you hang them up in a closet or something?

I would consider you storing them inside of the can. I do not think they will lose a lot of action by storing them in the can. Remember we buy the items that way, stored in the can. I never heard of any thing to where someone made a remark about the springs lost any of its action. You can always pull the springs out to give them more action.

If you prefer to store them somewhere out of the coin, select any place that comforts you the most.

I like to store mine out of the can, in a convenient closet. I do it to keep the springs springy AND to take some of the presure off of my cardboard tube (I use what looks like a Pringles tube with a friction lid, instead of a twist on lid).

I also store my Spring Snakes out of the Can and Fully Extended. These items ar no different than my Appearing Canes, Flowers, etc. All are kept in the Open Position to maximize their potential.

I heard that will help keep the rats away from the refrigerator. Smile

Plastic ones I would keep in the can. Mine are metal springs with cloth or silk coverings. They are kept on a clothes hanger secured with clothes pins. Keeps the cloth and silk looking nice and keeps the springs stretched so they have more spring when they "pop".

I use four, (two taped together with duct tape), and have used them for at least 20 years. I have re-covered them twice with a light nylon (the plastic looks too cheap, even for me!). I store them as they are loaded for a drum load (squashed), and in 20 years they have shrunk about 2 inches and they are both about 3.5+ feet long. They are metal, not plastic. Personally, I don't think it is worth the time to specially handle them. My magic box stays in the car all year round, from Fairbanks where it gets 50 below to here in Raleigh where it gets above 100 degrees.

Oh, BTW, they are the cheap metal ones you get in the peanut brittle cans (from 20 years ago).

PS I also bend the ends of the springs in a loop and cover them with duct tape so they don't poke through the cloth.

Duct tape is my friend!

I have a set I've kept stored in the can for nearly 35 years now and they still work perfectly. So I see little reason to keep them stored open.

If you have any problems with your spring snakes a half a tab of Viagra will make them work like new.

HOWEVER, I have a Walsh appearing cane I bought 48 years ago. It came in a 4" long box, and that's where it stays. And it works like a dream.

Well I am fresh out of snake jokes - But I found out today that you're supposed to pee on a jellyfish stings, NOT a jelly stains. Sorry, strange lady at the donut shop. Just trying to help... Smile

I too have never stored them out of a can. I've had an 8 ft. snake for years in a cup and I still use it today and it hasn't lost its "jump" after @ 25 years.

Also, my Viper is always stored in the compartment and I never have a problem.
