After you do a show or walkaround magic is there something you do that encourages people to ask for your business card?
Or do you just say: "Thanks, Here's my business card." |

I have give-aways for the kids. After I give them my Million Dollar Bill I say, "And I have a full color picture for your parents." I then hand the parents my card which has my clown picture on it. This gets a laugh and gives me a reason to give them my card.
Also, when I give someone a balloon dog or any balloon creation I put a business card in the balloon creation somewhere. Another throw away line I use when I hand out my card to a group is, "I like to give people my cards because I find that a lot of people have kids who have birthdays. Some kids even have a birthday EVERY YEAR." I find that just a little quip or joke makes it less awkward to give the card and if your show or walkaround is well done and professional people want to know how to get in touch.

Paul Harris has an amazing effect involving business cards, very stong, though I can't remember the name of it for the life of me. Anyway, I recomend effects that involve them signing business cards, so you can give them as a "souvenier"

Danny hit the nail on the head. Do an amazing job and win them over. That is the best thing you can do. If they are truly interested in you because of who you are and how you made them feel, they will ask you without hesitation.

What Danny D. said.
One of the last living 10-in-one performers. I wanted to be in show business the worst way, and that was it.

Keep in mind though... when you do 2-3 close up magic tricks per table things are moving so fast that sometime though people think you're awesome they don't have the wherewithal at that time to ask you for a card. That's the situation I'm talking about.
It's obvious that doing an amazing job will help. |

MT, Pat Page suggest when doing a trick like the card in wallet, you have your card exposed in a window or card holder. This is a strong suggestion that you have cards and will help prompt people to ask for your business card.
You could also get the many books on business card tricks. If you go to give back an item you could attach you card to the item with a rubber-band or ribbon. If a rubber-band why not do the many rubber-band tricks. attach to a hole in the card, and say, here is a souvenir. When returning a dollar bill you borrowed, say something like, I would like to thank you for the loan of your dollar bill. I would like to present this to you for helping. Here you have their bill in one hand, and your business card in another. Start to move the bill close to them, but then change to handing them your card, and pocket the bill. Laugh, and say in a good hearted nature. Say, just kidding, and hand them their bill. Many times they will tell you to keep it. |

I don't see the point of all the stress about them asking for your card. How many do you give out that never get a call from? Thousands? Literally thousands?
So maybe, and this is just me, you are better off having them give you THEIR information. Now that is something that is useful.

Pick a card, guess a number, do you want one of my business cards?
Are but a few of the things magicians say that make people roll their eyes, and walk away as fast as they can. As Danny said if you are good enough they will ask you for a card.

If you want to be cheeky... Finish your set with Sneak Theif.
Nothing works better than a quality performance though.

Find out where they live, drive by and throw it in the yard. LOL
I agree that doing a great show is the best way to get them to ask. But if you just wanting to give cards out, there is nothing wrong with just saying, here's my card. You don't really need a reason. If you think it's somebody that may hire you, hand it to them, saying "if you ever need me." Tom

If you just want to spread your cards out like manure tell all the kids to get in line to get one one your cards to take home to show mom, and dad. I can't guarantee just how many of those cards will actually make it home, but the method you choose is up to you.

I often do a card prediction and go into ambitious card. But after the prediction I ignore the business card and just leave it with them. Also; Jay Sankey had a great impromtu trick with business cards. If you can use them... do... and leave them!

I agree that a killer show, getting THEIR card and the other are dead-on ides shared here! - - I ‘also’ like to use one of my cards as an opportunity to add value by sharing a killer micro-training moment/opportunity to share something of real value to THEM using a simple business card strategy that they can use to help them in a simple, doable, genuine and significant way… if I have added sufficient value then they literally ask for (and get) stacks of my cards to use and share with others they meet.
Bottom line (for me anyway) is how-ever and when-ever possible add real, significant, meaningful and massive value to others and they will beat a path to your doorstep for more of what you have to offer. NOT a new idea. Simply affirming the brilliance of the shares before this one! Hope that adds to the over-all discussion. I am, as always, at Your Service and In HIS Service, ~ Deano in Reno <><

Ahh...but the real question is how can you get their card or info? Lately, I have purposefully forgotten my business cards and simply say, "I don't have mine on me, but I can quickly email you a link you to my website." I take out my iPhone and send them a quick link. Now...my info is in their email Inbox and I also have the ability follow up knowing their email address. It is a bit sneaky, but I have found it to be very effective!

Ill pass mine out right before I leave. Often they will say they were just about to ask, so beat em to the punch.
