Thanks a lot guys. I will get them straight from the site.
I am ordering the disembodied princess plans. I just wanted to know if the box looks nice on stage, if it is well built. Or does the design look bottom-line? |

A small warning regarding Paul's plans...the books are well worth the money, but sometimes the measurements for the props can be a bit large. You may, as paul suggests, make a cardboard mock-up of the prop to see the actual size before building. Good luck!
I am whatever I am to you.

I certainly have no complaints with Osborne plans. For your show the props need to fit your situation.
For years I produced Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny for a mall chain. They were not the usual assistant dimentions. Santa was simply large. But the bunny (a ROUS - rodent of unusual size) could not use his/her hands, could not see well, and the ears were invisible to the costume wearer. Sometimes it was difficult to keep them invisible from the audience too. Size, costume, and abilities (and disabilities) of your help make a real difference in what fits your act. Making a model first is definitely good advice. My second suggestion is remember that life is too full of 32" wide doors (I think dressing rooms are like this just to see if you really are a magician.) Many props will not go through them. Enjoy! Stevens Magic running a special by where you get a free Osborne plan of your choice when you buy any of the Osborne illusion books. Free shipping also included, pretty good deal.

The new Black Book probably is the same, content-wise, but I think it is softcover instead of hardcover.

Funny you should ask, those are the only two Osborne books I currently own. Easy build is good for building an illusion over the week end in a hurry. They get the job done.
I used a few at a church youth conference talent show. My friends and I did the victory cartons and the easy build tip over. It has good quickies. The evolution and revolution has many excellent tricks, tips ,and ideas. I am costuming to do total eclipse of the heart in my next show. It has many large illusion ideas. |

Can you give me a rundown of the kinds of illusions that can be found in both books magictim? I'm esp. interested in Evolution/Revolution. Feel free to PM me or email me at: gentry.39@osu.edu
Thanks

I seem to remember there being plans for a bow sawing in Burling Hull's book, Illusions for the 1, 2, 3 performer show, published by Micky Hades.
I have an Abbott's bow sawing (purchased used for $300 CAN), and I built a case that unfolds to become a table to cart the prop in. I looked in the book, and thought, hey, there's my prop (at least, what sets on top of the table)! The Gr8 DonaldD.
