Over the last few months I have been collecting props and writing scripts for my new 1 hour paranormal/bizarre "magik" show, and I would enjoy hearing from Café members with critiques and feedback about the routines. And if you find anything useful in these scripts (or the whole script) please feel free to "steal" them. But please, if you do decide to use any of the material, make sure you adapt it to your performing style and not try to do the routines verbatim.
Quote: The Mind of the Ripper (Lebanon Circle’s “From Hell”)
We will start our adventure in the year 1888, the month of April in the WhiteChapel District of London. Over the next 3 years eleven residents of WhiteChapel, all women, would be brutally murdered. Five of these murders were attributed to a unidentified killer that we know as Jack the Ripper (begin opening bloody cloth).
Those victims, known as the Canonical Five, all had their throats slit and suffered various abdominal mutilations. (remove the stack of cards, place them in front of yourself, pictures facing the spectators and peel off the first five, one by one, as you mention their names, laying them out in a row in front of the tabled stack) Mary Ann Nichols, Annie Chapman, Elizabeth Stride, Catherine Eddowes and Mary Jane Kelly.
What goes through the mind of a killer such as Jack the Ripper? Perhaps one of his letters can give us a clue. (hold up the “From Hell” letter, discard the cloth making no mention of the blood stains on it. Read the letter out loud)
“From hell
Mr Lusk… Sor… I send you half the Kidne I took from one women… prasarved it for you… tother piece I fried and ate… it was very nise. I may send you the bloody knif that
took it out if you only wate a whil longer… signed… Catch me when you Can.”
What goes on in our minds? Is there something down deep inside all of us… that can possess us and make us capable of deciding who lives or dies? Let’s test that proposition.
(Gather up the five canonical cards and place them in a stack on your right)
This pile will represent our victims (remove a non-bloodied card from the bottom of the large stack and place it on your left) and on this side we will start our survivors pile.
Who would like to be take a trip to WhiteChapel?
(Select a spectator using your favorite method)
Now I would like you to concentrate, try to project yourself back to the 1880’s, for the next few minutes attempt to think like Jack the Ripper, feel like Jack the Ripper… I want you to look carefully at these pictures and decide which ones you think the Ripper would kill, and which ones he would pass on by.
(Have the spectator make the selections while you place the cards in the appropriate piles… and then when you are finished...)
These pictures, these cards were collected under the instructions of the London Metropolitan Police. Some of these women were believed to be actual victims of the Ripper, others were murdered during the same time period, but by dissimilar methods and some had lived but were considered prime targets during the ongoing investigation. But only Jack the Ripper knew which of these woman were his special, personal victims.
And the blood tells the whole story. (turn the packets over, revealing the bloodied and non-bloodied back of the photographs)
Thomas Bond who profiled the character of the Ripper stated the killer “was a man of solitary habits, subject to periodical attacks of homicidal and erotic mania.” One hundred and twenty five years later… did you connect with the profiler Thomas Bond… or for the moment… did you see The Mind of the Ripper?
Input gladly expected.

Very nice script, I will not use it because it doesn't fit my performance style. But it's very nice. Thanks for sharing!

I've done this a few times and it plays very well. All the moves are logical and timely.
Thanks, Al!
