Party stores sell bags of shiny plastic coins for party favors, and these can be used for magic with kids in ways that real metal coins cannot. A new idea is set forth in The Wizards' Journal #24 this month for a signed plastic coin to a sealed Halloween candy bag.
Plastic coins also have an advantage in that they can be easily gimicked by the home craftsman. The disadvantage is that they are lighter in weight than metal coins and don't ring when dropped. To overcome that in a Miser's Dream, you can drop them onto a bicycle bell mounted in the container, which can make them sound like regular coins when they hit.

Do they have any edging? do they represent real coins or do they look like a generic pirate coin?

Thanks Jim,
I have a magic class coming in within the next 2 weeks with 55 kids already signed up. I do have one coin trick that I teach that uses no sleight of hand just a good story. I will go to the Dollar store and see what they have because I could use that as another hand out for them. I will let you know how it goes... Thanks again Bill |
