We just got our electricity back on. Sunday night was the worst of it. We could see the fires coming at us from the north, the south, and the west. We were practically surrounded. We never did have to evacuate, but a lot of our neighbors left anyway. Brad Burt almost lost his house. The flames were literally in his back yard.
Joel Bauer told me that he and his family narrowly escaped the fire up in his area. We had our car packed with clothes, unreplaceables such as the props I use in my show (while easily replaced, it was easy to pack, so why not?) pictures, and our computer's tower. Kristi (my wife) and I really thought that we were spending our last few hours in our home. Needless to say I did not sleep much that night. I spent all night listening to the news on the radio, watching the fires by simply looking out the windows, and listening for the evacuation announcement. Our small town (Santee, which is a suburb of San Diego) got off REALLY lucky. All of the other towns around us are in almost total ruin. My son, Eric and I are having a little trouble with our breathing (I am an asthmatic and he has allergies), because our air is filled with smoke and ash, but we are not doing too bad. The fires are still burning with 0% containment, but we are out of the way now. |

Dpe666,
I've been thinking about you and the gang for days now. I'm so thankful that you and yours and doing as well as you are. I've been concerned about Brad as well. You mentioned that he almost lost his house. Is he out of harms way for the time being? Is it possible that any of you will see more of this or is it fairly safe to say that the fires are not a prominate threat? You mentioned 0% containmemt. Are you guys still unsure if you'll see more of the same fire(s) or have they "so called" moved on from you guys area? Let me know. My thoughts and best wishes to all of you. Lee.

We are pretty much out of harms way. Unless something really drastically changes we should be ok. Although, I will admit that with all of the flames surrounding me, I kinda feel right at home, if ya know what I mean.

Good Luck--Stay safe and I hope your neighbors are too.
