Another resource for learning coin magic is Goldfinger: Stand Up Coin Magic which is available at http://www.lybrary.com Although there are some clever moves and routines in it, it has many very easy to do ideas and effects.

Can someone tell me the difference between an expanded shell and a unexpanded shell? Thanks- Matt

Matt - probably best to start a new thread for a new topic.
That said, and expanded shell will work with most/all like coins while a shell that has not been expanded has a 'partner' coin. Welcome th the Café Hudson. |

Something no one has mentioned in this thread is WHERE are you wanting to perform coin magic? Are you sitting down? In which case coin work with tables is good,or are you standing, in which case everything needs to be chest height. Are you doing close up (in which case you can use small coins) or stage, in which case large coins (Dollar or maria therese(?) dollars. Tom Stone uses the latter as they are larger and thinner (so easier to palm) than a standard dollar.
Answering these questions will also guide you as to the best resources for you. Some DVD's seem almost entirely table based. Nathan Kranzo's stand up coin magic is all standing, Eric Jones' Metal DVD is shown seated but could be performed standing in most cases. Best wishes, Danny |

That's a good point. I didn't think about that but that's true, if you really take the time to decide which kind of magic you want to perform, you will use right from the beginning the good resources.

1KJ Inner circle Warning: We will run out of new tricks in 4385 Posts |
While sleight of hand is great, I like to use gaffed coins too. One of my favorites is the 11 cent trick. I use a wallet with a coin pocket. In the coin pocket I have a litle hand made separator with an 11 cent gimmick on one side and a half dollar and shell on the other. they really come in handy for easy impromptu effects that involve the spectator, especially with the 11 cent trick.

Greg Wilson has some great coin work on his DVDs, including some fine utility moves, but I'm not really sure if a beginner could handle them.
The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.
