I came up with the idea for this trick the other night. I'm sure my patter and handling could use some improvement... but I just wanted to make a quick video to show you guys what I came up with. what you do think? like the trick? |

Just looks like you've adapted NFW to a Monte routine with a clean up at the end.
There are plenty of entertaining 'four card' monte type routines out there, and plenty of routines where four cards change to four others. Having said that, it should be quite baffling to any lay person. |

I was having trouble doing the counts with the DST... so I tried a different method of performing the trick while still sorta getting the same basic effect. I think there are positives and negatives to performing it the way I did vs. NFW. for me, the positives outweigh the negatives mainly because this version is much easier to perform, can involve spectator participation, and it gives you the option to end clean (and then go into a 4 ace routine if desired). I guess it's really a combination of NFW and double back by john allan.... but I've never seen anyone perform it the way I did (though it's possible this handling was published by someone, somewhere along the line). I'm hoping someone else can improve on the patter and handling... so if anyone has any ideas or wants to work on this a little bit, that would be great. maybe presenting it as a monte isn't the best idea. but the patter should ideally be funnier and more engaging to distract a little more from the flusteration counts and so the whole process of putting the 4 cards face down doesn't seem too contrived.... or to have some sort of justification for it. maybe patter along the lines of 4 sisters... and say "one goes to her house" [put one queen under a figurine house that is on the table]... or something like that. and for the last two, say "and these two sisters were fighting and getting in each other's faces" (giving you an excuse to put the two cards face to face). anyways... any advice on improving the trick would be appreciated. |

The effect is that four identical cards change into the four aces. It's only one effect really. It would be better to have several phases and the change to aces as the kicker.
There is no reason to show the "Queens" initally with the Flushtration count and then show them again one at a time. Just do one or the other. You might patter that some people think they can win at Monte but what they don't know is the dealer secretly switches in more and more losing cards. As a matter of fact I once saw some pour soul playing the game and the dealer had switched in four losing cards. I felt really sorry for the guy but it turned out he knew more than me and the dealer. He snapped his fingers and changed the cards into the four aces. Keep experimenting and finding what works for you. You will probably have more success with proven routines and working on your technique but there is nothing wrong with experimenting too. |

NFW is about as perfect as a packet trick comes (minus the very start). I'd keep practicing the counts... The DST never interfered for me...

I had an idea of adding a 5th card to my routine.
from the spectator's perspective: I'll show them one joker and 4 queen of spades. I'll mix the 5 cards up so that they can't tell where the joker is and where the queens are. I tell them that if they pick a queen they'll win... if they pick the joker they'll lose. so they think they have a 4/5 chance of winning. then I tell them I'll help them out by removing the joker. then they'll be able to select from the remaining 4 cards which are all real examinable jokers (but the spectator will think that the 4 cards are all queens). also... after I put the first card down, I can mix it with the joker on the table. then when I put the second card down, I mix all three cards... then I put the last two cards down and then mix all of them. this would provide some justification for why I'm putting them down one at a time face down. and by the end of it, they wont be able to follow the original joker I put down so they'll be convinced that when I remove the joker, that it will be the same one I originally put down. with this version, I also don't really have to worry about switching a card... because I can just remove the gimmick joker and put it in my pocket and it will seem normal and people aren't really going to want to examine the joker I just put away. |
