Hi Guys,
I have decided that if I do not sell this trunk I want to refurbish it. So here is my question. IT is blue and gold right now.. I am thinking Red and silver instead with the black base. So the Gold on this trunk is over metal... I plan on stripping all the old paint to the metal and priming and painting... Suggestions on stripping the metal and "rivets" They are all painted gold.. Looks like the metal underneath is a clad of some sort... So My thought is a chrome paint... Also what is a good paint for the base, and the red where the blue is... Then the inner material is blah... Any suggestions on replacement material types for the inside of the trunk... Click here to view attached image. |

It all depends on what you want the trunk to say.
That's a very old-looking trunk. You can re-do it to look like a circus prop, or chrome it, or whatever, but it's still going to look like an old trunk that's been painted to look new. Which begs the question in the audience's mind: why? Who are you in the act, and how does that trunk relate to you? That's what you want to be asking.

George has a good point.
The red and silver would make it look like something from a circus (flashy/colorful). From the point of view of the audience, when props look old and untouched/redone, it says nothing has changed. No modifications have been done to make it 'tricky', etc. I'd leave the trunk and just redo/paint the base. Great looking prop! |
