This is a poem I made to go with Michael Skinner's Ultimate 3-Card Monte. The poem " A Lesson Well Learned " follows along with the standard routine move by move.
I had just gotten paid on a Saturday night I was on my way home, there was no one in sight When out of the shadows stepped a man who said “Sonny, let me show you a game that can make you some money.” Then out of his wallet some cards I did see They were black, red and black That’s it, only three. “ Lay down a ten “ he said with a grin “If you find the red ace that’s it, you win “ “Is it really that simple? “ I asked with no clue He looked rather shocked and said “ Would I lie to you? “ I pulled a ten from my pocket and said “ I’ll give it a try “ And he laid down those cards in the wink of an eye. The red ace went first, it was followed by black There was no mixing, no shuffleling He just leaned on back and said “ Now for ten dollars which ones the ace? “ I said “ Its right there “ with a big smile on my face But when he turned the card over, that’s when I could see This game wasn’t as simple as he said it would be. I felt I’d been cheated, I said “ Do that again “ He said “ I’d be glad to, just lay down your ten “ Now the ace went in the center, on the sides went the black Well I was bound and determined to win my ten back I threw my ten on the center one and I stared real hard I didn’t watch him, I was watching that card But when he turned the card over it was a two, with the ace on the end I said “ I’ve had it with you! “ OR But when he turned the card over, it was a three, with the ace on the end Now how could that be? “ I started this game to win me some money , but after only two turns all I got left is this twenty “ I said “ That’s it for me, this game is now over “ He walked up to me, put his hand on my shoulder and said “ Sonny, I like you so here’s what I’ll do If you’ll lay down that twenty, we’ll play with just two “ Only one red and one black? How could I lose? I threw down my twenty and he told me to choose Well I KNEW where the ace was, it had not left my sight I started to laugh and I said “ On your right “ He said “ Son it’s no laughing matter when your playing with money “ And That’s when I learned I had just lost my twenty He said “ The ace is right here, that’s as far as she goes It’s your money that’s gone when you play against pro’s “ Well that was my first game, it was also my last A true learning experience, right out of my past And the lesson I learned about the card biz? IF IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT PROBABALY IS. |
