"Awww, I've just got a pair of sevens... and another pair of sevens".
I remember it being said by someone who was pretty drunk. I may be confusing Gondorf's game with Lonnegan in "The Sting", with the cooler and his switching in of four jacks. But I'm sure I've heard this line somewhere else... or something like it. Butch and Sundance? Some old western? I figured this was the best place to ask. |

On searching, it seems both Bugs Bunny and "Del Boy" the loveable South London rogue, have won poker games with "A pair of ones... and another pair of ones".
I recall this being in a western, or at least, US-style location though, in something like one of those old Newman/Redford films. Not sure I've found it yet. |

Are you sure it was 7's? I have been all over IMDB.

In an episode of M*A*S*H, Radar loses a hand to Hawkeye, and, upon Hawkeye's question about Radar's hand, he replies, "Two pair. Queens."
"Queens and what?" "That was it: two pairs of queens." "You had four queens!?" A mad scramble ensues. |

Not sure about sevens. As part of searching around I found the poker scene from "the sting", which is well worth watching again, if you haven't seen it lately.
I googled "a pair of X and another pair of" for ace through king and didn't find anything I recognised. Oh well. Thanks guys...! |

I believe it was in Maverick, a Western ****-take which is highly amusing, but incredibly strange.

TV show Supernatural, Season 5, episode 7, The Curious Case of Dean Winchester.
Sam Winchester, playing a witch for Dean's life, beats three Aces by showing he had a pair of fours, which when coupled with two fours showing in the community cards, gave him the win with four fours. Jim |

From Barbary-Coast Bunny (1956):
Nasty Canasta: I got a full house. What you got, sucker? Bugs Bunny: Gee, does that beat me? All I got is two pair. A pair of ones, and another pair of ones. [Puts down four aces; Canasta quivers his lips in despair] Bugs Bunny: Hey, do you mean I win again? Nasty Canasta: [Pulls a gun on Bugs] Yeah, you win. But now we're gonna play another little game. Bugs Bunny: Another game? Hey, that's great. What do you do, spin this little gadget? [Bugs spins the cylinder on the gun, and money pours out the barrel; Canasta tries it, the gun goes off on his face] |

Here's a related question. Very young I remember seeing a Richard Pryor (?) movie where his character executes a butterfly cut "anyone wanna play some poker?" I remember thinking it was the coolest thing ever. Anyone know the title of the movie? I'm lookin' through the IMDB and I don't see it. I want to say he drove a bus full of kids.

Cain: That would be Bustin´loose from 1981. I haven´t seen it in ages so I don´t recall the butterfly cut but I do remember that I liked that he didn´t scream all over the place like in other movies. It was pretty good, especially the scene with the little girl who tries to be grown up when she really shouldn´t.

The poker game in The Sting is just brilliant. You see how Lonnegan switches decks but you never see just how Gondorf switches in his cards, though you see plenty of opportunities, which of course would be throws off for Lonngegan.
After Lonnegan switches in the cooler the scene cuts to Gondorf's point of view and you see Lonnegan wiping his forehead with the hankerchief. |
