I would love to learn some flourishes to encorporate in my card magic, I do have dan and dave's trilogy but some of it is overwhelming? Is it a good place to start for a beginner, I can do the basics like swing, swivel, and Sybil cut I also know Charlier cut and revolution cut

You could try Flourishes by Rich Ferguson although not a lot of time is spent on each flourish. It is a DVD by the way, so pause and rewind gets a lot of use.
Fluent Spanish speaker, if I can help anyone, let me know.

You mention wanting to learn flourishes—and then you mention “the basics”: swing, swivel, and Sybil cut... Charlier cut and revolution cut.” But these are all, as you indicate, impressive ways to cut a deck of cards. Flourishes are, however, much more than one-hand cuts. There's also for instance the one-hand weave shuffle, not to mention the various spring flourishes, table spreads, armspreads, etc.

If you want to incorporate flourishes into a card routine you usually want them to be false cut flourishes so that way they have utility in your tricks.
-Audience finds it impressive, usually doesn't detract from the trick itself and otherwise shows a nice mastery over cards -Certain flourishes make it seem like the deck is messed up afterwards so if it is basically a false cut this works in your favor -Short, simple, sweet flourishes used in the middle of a routine are best (Sybil cut, etc.)

The best starting point in my opinion is Genesis by Andrei Jikh. Trust me, you cant go wrong with it.

Also learning a more advanced version of the Sybil cut or making it your own is also fun and you already have the base down for it

The thing about card fans (as opposed to one-hand cuts) is that they can also incorporate magic effects as well as flourishes. I did a lecture on "Commercial Card Fans" with effects like:
1. A double-back routine called "Making Faces." The cards are fanned to show backs on both sides and eventually the deck becomes a normal deck. 2. A routine I called "Out of Print" using a blank back deck that was shown blank on both sides. I magically printed the four kings. Then magically printed the rest of the deck. The backs were left blank, but my patter was: "This is the best deck of cards to use in a poker game--one with all white backs. Think of it! There's no way to mark a deck with all white backs!" 3. A card reveal that was based on a Jerry Andrus effect. I showed it to Jerry back in the 70's and he was surprised that it worked without the thick close-up pad he used all the time. 4. I segued into regular card tricks like a four-ace trick, a card through handkerchief effect, etc. Of course, one-hand card cuts can incorporate magic effects also. Using a deck with regular backs, I use a one-hand half-pass cut after I do the "Slop Shuffle" to secretly reverse a selected card. Then I do a face up ribbon spread to show one card reversed, and then a turnover to show that the reversed card is the selected one. ----- Sonny

I think the best flourishes for tricks are the various fans and spreads. I think fancy false cuts add uneccesary suspicion to your effect, you are basically letting the spectators know you are doing something out of the ordinary.

Jerry Andrus had some great innovations and variations of fans and spreads in his books.
