This is probably a dumb question, but I have no idea what I've got here. It's a telescoping Okito-type box with a brass plug in the lid that drops into place hiding the coins once they have telescoped away. What is this thing called?

Here's a photo of the box, fully extended and without the lid. It's quite large. The bottom (extended) section can easily hide 7 quarters.
Anyone seen one before? Click here to view attached image. |

Did the box come with a false bottom gaff too?
The idea being that the box was offered as a production effect more than for okito work.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

It looks like the brass plug was original since it fits and matches perfectly. I don't think it was intended as a production since the brass plug doesn't come out as easily as it goes in. (It neatly drops out of the lid onto the stacked quarters, but there's no elegant (or secret) way to reverse the process.

Could it be one of those boxes that vanish a stack of coins? They normally come in children sets; in which case the tube is the release striker.
Fluent Spanish speaker, if I can help anyone, let me know.

No, the telescoping tube is not a bang ring. It doesn't separate from the rest of the box; just extends out.

This is interesting. I have something here much similar, if not just like it. I was told that it was made by Eddie Gibson. I'll have to "dig" mine out to compare it.
