Ive been thinking lately about things to add to my routine that "messes" with a child volenteer. Nothing mean or embarassing, I'm thinking along the lines of the broken wand gag. I have an "airzooka" (if you don't know what it is, look it up. They are hilareous) that I'm trying to work in. Maybe hitting them from behind with the air and putting it away before they see it. There is the angel and two fingers thing where the rest of the audience is in on the joke, as well as "over the top". What are some other ways you "mess" with your volenteers?

My favorite by far: Tom Burgoon's "Burgoon's Balloons", which he published in the Nov 2006 GENII. It presents the volunteer with an unexpected, funny situation, but doesn't "blame" him/her for a bad situation. All it takes is a change bag and some balloons.

I sneak-up on noisy moms with a microphone and broadcast some of their nonsense.
Airzooka: I came up with this concept last year. Use it for Jumbo Sidekick. It isn't (is not) Politically Incorrect and "could" be causing the effects within the routine. Plus you have the volunteer take practice shots at someone holding-up a silk. They blast the audience and you don't get blamed... but I would (I have) use(d) it on loud kids just the same as a Sausage Gun. Asking the kids trick questions and having them do impossible things: I really should put-out a DVD on it. Adults constantly thank me for the fun they had watching me make the kids jump through hoops.

Ronin I don't know who put it out first but I think you are talking about the "balloon is pink" trick
right? where you ask the kid to pick the pink balloon and you show a huge handfull of pink balloons put them back in the bag and then the kid reaches in and comes out with a different color. you keep doing that. or have another kid reach in and get a pink balloon. I have toyed with the idea except that I have my own change bag routine in my show and don't want to use an other change bag. looking for some thing else that will work the same and do the trick it is a fun trick. sam I do a whole bunch of stuff with the kid and a balloon such as handing it to them and letting it deflate or having it snap back at me and lots of other stuff. in this policatly correct world people are afraid to mess with the kids. me hell I push them around and man handle them and they all love it!!! the heck with political correctness - it will be the death of america.

An Airzooka makes a perfect vortex that travels quite a distance.
I put smoke from a smoke machine in an Airzooka and it sent the smoke ring all the way across the room. It is visually impressive. I've thought it would be great in a science themed show or just a fun thing to do any time because you can actually see the vortex travel. It's a giant smoke ring that is perfectly shaped and flies across the room. But it's hard to get smoke that is safe, convenient and ready to do when you are. Anyway, Airzookas don't look anything like a weapon but I think I'd call it an wind machine or something if I was going to use it in a school or somewhere else where it is important to be very PC. I saw one where the device was covered with a puppet type face so it looked like a person blowing the wind.

They did make an airzooka with built in safe smoke. It was made by zero toys, but I only see the small version on there. http://www.zerotoys.com

Smoke is fun but possibly (you know how some people are) possibly someone might say "What kind of an impression are you giving to the kids"
Never mind this and smoking are two different things. I had a PTA once tell me that I would never be invited back because ... I brought Whisky bottles into the school. Never mind this was a Just Say No Show, the bottles were blue and I was using them (tricky bottles) to teach the kids what happens if they don't pay attention. All they saw was the shape of the bottle........ and sometimes you have to wonder what exactly is going on, in their mind. If there is a way to blow a giant bubble or a bunch of bubbles though There's an idea.

No bubbles with the airzooka.... It goes too fast. They would pop. How crazy is the rest of the country? I have rarely had problems with bottles or smoke, or fire... Weird...

The worlds gone crazy... I like the idea of giving a child a bubble blower and telling him under NO circumstances can he blow bubbles because I'm allergic to bubbles, if they land on me I go a little cuckoo...of course he'll do it, so you could use the air gun thingy to comically shoot the bubbles....let one land on you and go crazy....who knows, it could work. |

Does anyone have a lie detector trick? I have heard there are a few on the market. This clip from Jimmy Kimmel is hilareous and gives me tons of ideas. http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=KPgpRw9ti......pRw9tiuM
