I'm trying to find out exactly when Houdini played the Hippodrome at Eastbourne, UK., and escaped from the police cells in that town.
Any information would be gratefully received. Riley |

Riley, I have what I thought was a comprehensive list of UK appearances;

I can't find any record for Eastbourne. The nearest places are Brighton in 1904, Hastings in 1905 & Brighton again in 1920.

Nor me, nothing for Eastbourne and no mention on Burfords list either.

I am trying to confirm the same thing but with a venue in Southend. Have found one reference but nothing else.

He was there, Appeared Easter Monday 1905. And he escaped on the Monday Morning from the Police cells at the town hall. He also accepted a packing case challenge at the same place on April 26th. there is also a news paper cutting about it,which il upload. found this in one of my ebooks
Impossible is just another level of difficulty

Great work Dan.
The Hippodrome is long gone. A victim of the Cinema conversions of the 1950's. It is now a very sad, abandoned, shop in need of some TLC. No one seems to know about this locally, none of the magicians anyway. This is amazing, well done on finding it out Dan, Brilliant. Riley, sorry for the derail. http://www.arthurlloyd.co.uk/Southend.htm#hipp |
