Dee Christopher's best selling device just got even more devilish.
Peek Information Switch billets or cards inside or OUTSIDE the pad Invisibly steal billets or other items out of spectator's hands Built in, expandable indexing system Automatic Writing without special pens Forcing Mental Epic Predictions All of this and more in an innocent looking notepad that will cost you next to nothing to put together. When you build your pad you'll have many refills already there to last you over a hundred performances. The Beast contains several well thought out features and various handlings to push their potential to the max. If you already use the Broken Wings pad, fret not, The Beast's extra features will hide away until you need them. You won't even know they are there. This is potentially the only gimmick you may need in your act. It will allow you to do a vast multitude of things and you could build your show around it. It's a notepad, a perfectly normal, justified item for a mentalist to carry - The one I use is A6 size (though you could make any size really) so fits in my pocket perfectly! You don't need any special pens, no difficult handlings, nothing. Just direct, straight forward mentalism. [The original Broken Wings device was independently discovered and worked on by Dee Christopher, however, it appeared in John Riggs' Psychic Agenda years before. This evolution of the original pad brings things to a whole new level.]

This looks very promising. Does this include all the features of the original Broken Wings pad or must one obtain the original as well? Does this have access to the video as the original Broken Wings pad has?
Anyone have this and willing to post a review on it? mlv |

After reading the above information I was interested and was looking over the web page and had to share Mr. Christopher's blurb about his business policies. I think its awesome when a working performer is super busy but if you have products you actually sell, you might want to soften the customer service angle just a tad. Here is what he says about Rush shipping and other Business Policies..
Concerning Rush Orders and other Business Policies-- Can't be done. Most of the time. In RARE occasions I might be able to drop everything and get something to you but understand these following factors: I perform for a living, and am usually very busy, often traveling and not at home (where I make these products). So I manufacture products in between shows, when I can. There are, at any given time, up to twenty to thirty people waiting for orders. I'm serious--this is how weighty my backlog is at times. To get out a rush order, I would have to put you ahead of them. I am not a magic dealer, and don't have customers. I don't depend on selling clipboards and notepads either for a living or to soothe my ego. I make these items for my friends. Treat me as a friend, and I'll do the same for you. Become rude, impatient, impolite with me, and you're not my friend and I will not sell to you. EVER. Sorry if this makes me sound like an ass, but lately I've had people "demand" "threaten," etc., thinking they've ordered from Tannen's and my economic foundations would wither under thier ire. For their efforts, they received a refund and an invitation not to order again. I assume they whinged about it on the Magic Café and other forums. Good. Maybe this will weed out the faint-of-heart. Bwhaahahahahaa! In the event I can get out a rush order, there are a lot of additional inconvieniences in terms of production and shipping, so be prepared to pay extra. How much depends on how inconvienient it will be in terms of time and effort. Thanks! |

Seems reasonable to me (the blurb). Here's my unbiased review.
I took the plunge and downloaded the Beast. Interesting idea and some interesting routines offered. I don't have plans of making the pad verbatim, but I will be using aspects of this for a pad I'm designing right now (not for commercial sale, just my own personal pad). My only criticism of this pad is the b****t s*****ing gimmick. I can't decide whether it's necessary at all. It's certainly novel. It's interesting but the Add 3 numbers routine that this seems to be designed for is so ridiculously easy to do without a pad, prop or gimmick (as you can see on Richard Osterlinds tutorials) that a pad like this really does seem like overkill. But used for things like Automatic Writing, Memory Loss and a sneaky p**k I can see this device being somewhat useful. The only other thing that bugs me is my inability to work out why this is named after a 1985 Mr. Mister song. Some cautions A MOVE is involved! So if you don't like sneaky moves, move on. This is a peek/switch pad. Not an imp (just in case people were wondering). It does come with routines ala the original. You do not need the original Broken Wings as everything is explained in the PDF. You 'could' do a whole act based around this pad if you wanted to as the blurb says. Personally I wouldn't but that's not to say I wont use it. I will be. If anyone has any other specific questions just PM me. |

PhilDean, thanks for the review. Unfortunately, I can't get the Mr. Mister song out of my head.
I think Psypher is still the best way for me to go. |

Hey Zombie, good to see you fell for my irritating psychological force on the Mr. Mister song. Jokes aside, I agree, Psypher is a great imp tool and this will certainly not replace it. I don't use that one myself (I've a devious homemade pad) but...
Having said that... I do feel that some of the more modern methods ala Psypher could be incorporated with this pad if you really wanted to add 'another purpose' to this already multi purpose pad. It's a bit chicken/egg, but a pad where you can choose between p**king the original or a sneaky imp is an interesting idea (or perhaps a mad and unnecessary one). I can certainly see making one of these up as a spare gimmick if you wanted to do some auto writing or similar. I'm gonna play with it a bit more and see. |
