<<Angel Eye Designed to stop card-switching at tables, the Angel Eye system relies on barcodes placed on each card with invisible ink. As the cards are dealt, a sensor in the dealing shoe keeps track of the cards being dealt which are then tracked by a computer. When the dealer presses a button on the shoe, it determines whether the cards on the table are the same as those that were dealt. If they are not, security makes its presence known.>>

This seems to be a good concept provided that each card in the deck has the same bar code to signify that it goes to that deck, and not each card have its individual bar code. if each card has a different bar code then that would give the house an unfair advantage of knowing what cards the players hold. essentially allowing them to do what they try to prevent players from doing.

If there's no human interaction between the "angel" system and the dealer there should be no problem. I surmised that the use of this would confirm that the card dealt was indeed the one the player received, precluding any switching of cards. No interaction other than triggering an alert over a card change is necessary.

I have trained our staff to use these and they have been put onto all of our baccarat games... (see my post from long ago about that handsome super star pit boss that caught the card switchers on baccarat). This shoe only confirms the cards once they have already been faced by the dealer or by the patrons. The shoe understands the 3rd card rule and also alerts when an over draw occurs. It is meant to catch dealer errors, prevent card switching, and allow for the reconstruction of a hand should the dealer send the cards out in the wrong order or if for some reason the cards get mixed up. These shoes are designed for baccarat games and as such can transmit NO advantage to the house or to the patrons even if it tips off the cards before they were sent back to the dealer. The reason is that, due to the third card rule, there are no decisions to be made at all in baccarat except for deciding your wager. The facing of the cards by the patrons is just a formality... and the shoe can only read the card at the moment it is being drawn from the shoe.

Several years ago Bally Technology sold to casinos a technology called MindPlay.
It also used marked cards, cameras and RFID. The idea was to monitor blackjack players. The casino would not need a pit boss because they not only could see how much players bet. But, they could also see their betting frequency, style of play (ie. spot card counters), know if they were good or bad players and decide by computer how to "comp" the player. From the casino point of view, knowing how to comp and how to spot cheaters or card counters are all good goals. Unfortunately for Bally's, there was a law suite and they stopped manufacture in about 2007.

Casinos also use special cameras and supply some survallence folks with luminous sunglasses to detect luminous marked cards.
Finally, they also monitor certain frequencies, looking for wireless video transmissions. I have also heard, but, do not have proof that they use other cameras and filters to look out for lasers in games like Roulette. (But, I don't know if the laser detector is true). The first 2 line items I know are true. Of course, some casinos are more into the monitiring technology than others. It is sort of like the old joke where someone put a sign on their door: "This house is protected by a 38 calliber gun 3 days a week, you guess which 3 days". Casinos are the same way, you do not know which casinos use what monitoring technology. And that also included facial recognition and license plate monitoring.

If you want to see your casino dice turn translucent, just put your camcorder on night shot, or infrared, and look at the dice.
What you saw in Yonkers Joe was the fact that through certain filters, casino dice appear totally translucent. The couple in the movie used red make up to smear on the dice so that they would not bee "see through" anymore because they wanted the casino to think that they switched the dice... so they could be brought to the back room and also learn about the dice security features. When the casino checked the dice they saw they were not switched but just "accidentally" got some red make up on them. The whole scenario is B.S. but the movie was entertaining enough. |
