Due to logistic issues, I came up with the idea of loading a silk fountain in a THIS production system. 3 hankies are shown, bundled up, and the fountain starts.
It would make the silk fountain a self-contained trick (no table steal needed), and this has some interesting advantages. Since I do not own a silk fountain or a THIS set, I´m posting here to see if anybody has tried it. My suspicion is that the shape of the silk fountain might be a bit too rounded for the THIS gimmick, as it works better with taller objects like a bottle, for example. I guess this would take some experimenting with the size of the THIS silks and the size of the silk fountain. The holder for the fountain would be modified, in fact, the THIS gimmick would be the holder for the fountain. - a combination of the two holders made into one. |

I have one I made along those lines (actually two and I've already worn one out).

Mary is correct. Producing the Silk Fountain from the THIS (Improved) is easily done and very effective. The way I deal with making the "cabbage" tall is a trick I learned from Tony Slydini long before the days of personal computers. He even presented me with my first official gimmick for doing this. It was the paper roller core from a roll of toilet tissue! The instructions were to sit down and stand the roller on end and hold it straight with your thighs. Stack the flat silk fountain and start folding. Push the "cabbage" into the roller little by little as the "cabbage" gains bulk at the center. When finished folding, push the works into the tube and anchor the silks to each other by sticking a "Tee" pin down into the "cabbage". Push the works through the tube and out the bottom. Now its shape should be right.
I have updated my gimmick or loader over the years. Now I use the plastic tail piece from a kitchen sink. Money is no object! It costs less than $2. LOL Go for it! It works fine. (Remember to remove the pin!) Enjoy your silk magic. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

Hm I guess the inner circle calls this the silk cabbage... living and learning.
Searching for THIS on google is a near-impossible task, so I found no reference to the improved THIS. Where can this THIS be found? |

The "cabbage" is a term we stole from Mary!

I got it from Dennis Loomis.

I played around with many methods to hold the "Cabbage" as Mary and Dennis call it. I tried a thicker silk with velco that I wrap around the bundle. Now I just use the toe of a pair of tights. Voila. It holds the load together and it it easier for me to dislodge it.

Even without a woman, a magician has to have a source of pantyhose. The toes make bags and containers and it is, of course, the original source of invisible thread. (Explain this to my cowboy buddies!) Just wait until they learn how to produce a full glass of liquid (wine etc.).
Maybe we need a magic slogan "Now you don't see it and we're glad you don't." Bob |

Of course, you can get a THIS (Improved) in 100% pure China silk from me in the colors of your choice for $36. Exactly like the ones I've used for decades.
