Ok so I'm ACTUALLY trying to figure out if I want to go with the original John Cornelius Perfect Pen, or the Stealth Pen from Penguin.
I know that many of you out there are thinking to yourselves that I'm NUTS, obviously go for the original from the original creator, But here are my reasonings and maybe its clever marketing and the cool video sucking me in, but please, don't flame me, actually here me out. Perfect Pen from http://www.johncornelius.com/magic.html $40.00 Pros: Support the creator, Its a nice looking executive pen, it writes, its refillable, It is Bada$$ Cons: I cant seem to find some good close up pics of this, maybe even a close up HD video of the pen? or to see how far the pen penetrates, also on the website its mention of actual bits of ripped bill as added visual effect (I thought you have to purchase a separate video to learn make this added feature yourself), I have read a few places that this is not ACTUALLY fully examinable, as in someone could potentially figure it out while hold it, or even break it) again I admit this is {Hearsay}. Its a bit pricey. On the website is says " NOTHING is added or taken away to achieve the effect" Now I know how pen though bill works normally with a Mag***** Tip, is this implyig that the method of penetration is a completely different method then the other cheaper versions (AKA Stealth pen form penguin method) EDIT: http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/S4289 Pen though anything DVD + $7.50 = almost 50 bux for the pen, dvd and no back up. STEALTH PEN from http://www.penguinmagic.com/p/1881 $30.00 Pros: Looks like a normal Bic pen, it writes, its refillable, it comes with TWO PENS (HELLO? BACK-UP!) and a DVD showing routines (dont know how well it is but still), Its cheaper, and you can make the dollar appear rolled up INSIDE the pen while the spectator is holding it?!?! (Can this be accomplished with the Perfect Pen? Any owners, is there enough space in the Perfect pen to roll up a bill around the ink stick and put it back together? Cons: It's another cheap knockoff, the pen does not penetrate that far, it does not have that added "Ripped" pieces that the perfect pen claims to COME WITH ALREADY, It does not look like a nice professional Pen, which I'm back and forth on, I really like the nice looking pen, but maybe the simplicity of this pen will sell the effect more? I dunno, whats your guys thoughts? I also looked at that Key effect (Ignition?) meh.. not for me. Please don't flame me.. I'm just pointing out details to make a choice, and asking on here for others opinions so that I hopefully make a choice that I'm happy with in the end. It be awesome if the perfect pen came as a set of two, I'm a big believer in back-ups. (that's kinda whats really getting to me) $80.00 bucks to have a pen and a back-up, just for a pen though anything... Yikes. |

Ha derek
in my humble opinion having done the pen effects. I would go with ignition.it looks great and is examinable too. and its a everyday object you would have on you. todd |

I would go with metal flake robbie with a tipless manganite, if they still make them. BIlly McComb might know.

Hi Derek,
Maybe I can share my thoughts on this. I have a Cornelius Perfect Pen which I bought more than 10 years ago. I am not sure if this product has been improved upon since that time but the version that I have only came with a sheet of instruction (no DVD). You have to make up your own "rip gaff" and stick it onto the pen following the instructions. Yes, the pen can be examined quite freely by the spectator without discovering the secret (as long as you maintain control and don't let them take apart the pen to see the insides). Usually I let them examine the pen before the trick (so they won't know what to look for) and then they usually don't ask to see it again after the trick. When I hand out the restored bill, they are always more interested to look at the bill rather than the pen. As for comparing it to the Stealth Pen, I can't really comment because I haven't seen the Stealth Pen. The only advantage that I can think of is probably that a Bic pen looks more ordinary than the Cornelius executive-type pen. Hope this helps. Thanks.

Perfect Pen is a worker for me, my magic-friend Stefan Schutzer showed me a great routine with this pen. I used this effect once on a small TV-show.

I have an original Cornelius Pen Through Anything I bought when it first came out. It came with a back-up regular pen. I usually carry a Mont Blanc-type pen anyway. Rip gaff? Bah! Don't need it. The Perfect Pen was created as an improvement. I like the original.

I think it was a mistake to try and "improve" the original Cornelius Pen Through Anything. With the right presentation, it's one of the BEST! Is it still available, I wonder? All others pale in comparison...

I have both and prefer the "Stealth Pen". For one, completely examinable even if they poke and pry at it. Secondly, I perform Gregory Wilson's "Pointless" with it just prior. Thirdly, it looks more like a casual pen.

I see. Makes sense. Yeah, casual-looking is a plus. As I said, I do carry a Mont Blanc-type pen anyway. It's clipped to my polo shirt. The Stealth is a Bic-type. The Perfect Pen is metal. I've seen that. It works good as well. With audience management, it will NEVER be detected.
I guess it's a matter of taste. There IS no right or wrong with these. It has to be YOUR choice. Myself, I'm happy with John Cornelius' Original Pen Through Anything. Doug |
