What terible news. I was lucky to have met Scotty at our New York Coin Magic Seminars, when he came up with Bill Wells. He was eager to share his wonderful magic with the guests, and everyone found him to be so friendly and humble. He gave everyone a copy of his booklet, Scotty York on Coins (which is a great book!!). For those who have the New York Coin Magic DVD series, take another look at his copper silver transposition, which is a lesson in itself on audience management, and his Sweet Little Trick, is sweet indeed! Thanks Scotty, for sharing all of your incredible knowledge with the magic community. You will be missed.

The Greater Magic Video Library - Volume 49:
Bar Magic Featuring Eric Mead, Bob Sheets & Scotty York One of those lesser known gems floating out there. If you want to see bar magic done right, pick this one up on DVD if you can find it. Scotty York's "Change For A Twenty", "Doesn't Time Fly?" and his "Color Changing Knives" routine are fantastic. A pleasure to watch him, Eric and Bob perform. I have had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know Bob Sheets from his appearances and lectures at California Magic but I never had the opportunity to meet Mr. York. Sadly, now I will never have that opportunity...R.I.P. Scotty York. |

So sad to hear the news about such a good friend. Like John Carney said, Scotty was a major creative influence of many of my generation of close-up workers. He was a mad man when it came to method, nothing would stop him from search for the perfect method to an effect. But he was also unique in his ability to concentrate on the effect. Weird wonderful effects that were different. For me he came the closest to Del Ray in both of those departments. I smile when I think of the routines and ideas (like the dart board trick that Scotty was working on at one time, and the horse race trick with the little organ grinder that Del Ray was working on at the time of his death) that will probably be left frozen in time, ideas that existed only in their brains that died with them. But on a happier note I'll remember the ones that Scotty completed and the impact on audiences especially the magicians who were fortunate enough to see him perform. Like the guys at the FFFF when Scotty did a tribute to Eddie Fechter in the form of a ten card selection. When the final card was found pinned to the inside of the hat Scotty was wearing all the while... there was the dead silence, the pause as each person in the room thought. "What the _____.?" and then the explosion of applause as everyone at that convention rose to give him a standing ovation for a job well done. Scotty right now I'm giving you a standing ovation one last time. You taught me never to stop searching for method and effect. Watching you in action behind the bar at the Brook Farm Inn of Magic, and those many late night sessions all those years ago is still fresh in my mind. The memory of the Silver Fox will always be with me.
RIP dear Scotty, thanks for hanging out with me. Paul Gertner |

CHANGE IN PLANS FOR SCOTTY YORK'S MEMORIAL SERVICE
The family has decided to delay the memorial service for Scotty until later in the month in order to allow some to attend who couldn't do so otherwise. The new dates will be either the last week in January or the first week in February. As soon as the new date is selected I will pass on the information. Bill |

Sad to see him go. However, he lives on in his work.
I recently picked up his DVD set. Perhaps someone can help me with one of his effects.. Fast Eddie. Does anyone know how to make the bills in the effect? He didn't cover it in the DVD. Are they glued? If so, what would be the best glue to use? Thanks. KJ. |
