Hi guys!
I would love to hear if you have any review about this new book. http://backstagebusiness.wordpress.com/2......omorrow/ It looks really interesting. Looking forward to finishing the contract on this ship to order one. All the best! |

Sounds like a lot of this stuff is in his other books. I have all of the others, and they are well worth owning.
Things are more like they are today than they've ever been before...

I have this as well as the first editions of his other books. This ultimate collection contains the latest editions of all his books. Many illusions are updated in method or design or just some small improvements. Some illusions are greatly improved like his motorcycle appearance.
These books also contain new material like his new book on mentalism illusions and big-scale productions for cars and people. I think his material is generally solid with detailed building plans and there are so many illusions that you will find several that you could use. if anything, it will give you many ideas. |

Yes. JC's work is really interesting and the plans are very good and detailed. At the moment I am building an illusion from his books and it turned out quite easy compared to other plans I builded from.

Personally I am not overly impressed with JC's illusion designs he has one or two nice ideas but overall I don't find much in originality at all just re works mainly of existing ideas..they seem ok for newcomers to wet their feet but it stops there for myself. I do find his writings very self praising and PR with them always reverting back to 'when I did this & when I did that" padded with nonsense. I do ask myself if he is so world class as he likes to state why don't top illusionists use him to design for them. Sorry just being honest its a personal opinion to throw out there. I'm sure he is a nice guy its nothing personal I just don't see what the fuss is about with his illusion designs.

Dfield I have to agree with you I'm not that wowed by JC's designs either. One of the worst was the bike production I forget the name as I type, I remember it was faked on a promo video to make it look more impressive than it actually is
I'm also sure he appeals to a certain market place and it helps his marketing having the babe girl tagging along, after all we all like a bit of eye candy |

Dfield and natmagic, you both make an excellent point. Seems there's a lot of hot air here. Fancy words and lot of (self-made) hype.
I find it rather amusing when so many people call themselves "designers" and in the end only make an endless collection of boxes on bases which all look they came from the same factory...yeah someone might call it their style. But the thing is, a real designer (who works for top names) can work on a modern industrial or gothic show and be just as good. There's so much hot air in "illusion design" these days its not funny. Fancy sites, fancy words...some guys are more talented at keeping up a certain image of themselves and most of it is just bs. That said, JC is an exception as he DOES have a REAL career in MAGIC instead of some call center somewhere.
